F-7 of Pakistan Air Force

that does not seem like good time for f7 pilot lmao , you are just a sitting duck for f16 . did u ever get a kill in dogfights .
O boy, let me brace for impact. At slow speeds, F-16 has a tough time due limiters. I have a BOFE shot on F-16, so no kill awarded because that is considered damage.
Before JF-17 and J-10, there were only three aircraft in CCS: F-16, Mirage and F-7. It wasn't always one sided until F-16 got APG-68 after MLU. After that, there is no match. In BVR missions, they just thrashed us. In IR setups, you still got a slim chance.

@AeronautIR

So today i was reading a statement by one of the US generals that they are using APKWS (miniature rockets on pods guided by laser) to take down drones. Because shooting 20,000 USD Shahed 136 with half a million or more worth AMRAAMs/AIM-9X is really not cost effective.

So can anything be done like that for F-7PGs which are relatively newer? I think PAF should really look into keeping them flying and modifying them for drone interception roles......with proper guidance you can use cheaper laser guided rockets or IR guided rockets at close range to take out Shahed type loitering drones. These drones don't carry radar or AA missiles, so they are not a threat, so you can mount a CAP with a bunch of F-7PGs to hunt these drones which we know next time against India there will be many, thereby saving your expensive high speed high tech AD missiles.

Since you can fly all the way up close to the drone, your rockets/missiles can be miniature and for need to expensive/heavy density long range propellant or motors.

Seems really interesting and deadly how this whole drones/loitering munitions warfare is shaping up. I believe true Air to Air combat role is over soon.

Flew all aircraft of 19, 23 and 20 sqn... koi aik aircraft nai hota kisi pilot ka... it depends on daily scheduling and availability which tail number you get to fly.
sir i mean first one ..pehla pehle jahaz ka num

The main problem is lack of EW suite and vulnerability to SAMs in our 3rd gen aircraft. They may become good drone hunters with putting in systems but that is not economically feasible in my opinion. The improved ground defenses are a more cost-effective option for C-UAS role.

So are we upgrading our C-UAS net? because next war with India will not be Air to Air combat. India has already lost that battle and PL15s ensure they will not fly within 200km of the border.

But what they will do is use as many cheap drones/loitering munitions and if Ukraine and Iran war has taught anything, it is the new age warfare. Cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and lots of drones/UAS.

Also, i didn't mean that we send F-7PGs over enemy territory, i mean they can fly within the safety of own airspace and ensure that any drones that cross over can be shot down. Like do CAPs over airbases, critical assets and infrastructures.

I remember a loitering drone all the way to Malir Karachi.....you cannot rely only on ground based AA guns.

Yes, we are doing both offensive and defensive strategies in unmanned domain. However, to my knowledge, drone hunting with fighter aircraft is not on the cards. The C-UAS tech of soft and hard kills is mostly by ground equipment, both static and mobile.

afaik fighter jets are not that good at interceting slow moving uavs , especially an interceptor like f7 . our z10me and other heils would be way way better at shooting down these slow uavs . most ukrianian anti uav system i have seen are helis and slow moving engine planes
also super mushaks would be perfect for this role
we should task our helis+SMK+AA for these slow shahed type uavs .
