Fair critique but I think a bit laced with your political frustration. Why has all of this become an issue for you now only? Plot conversations were going on in the GHQ in the 80s and 90s. They are part of the compensation structure that the government itself has put in place.
When I used the Venn diagram analogy, the point I was making is that not the entire army is involved in politics. Its the usual ISI internal wing involved in political engineering and the people at the very top orchestrating. The vast majority of the officers run away from this (as you yourself say "woh tang hain").
I do wish things were more transparent and we have less contention amongst the masses but unfortunately I don't see any resolution in the near term.
Obviously its part of my political frustration but also, the first time I was legal to vote was 2018, it took me time to learn these things, they happened before my time and the 'official' Pak Studies history is very different from the real one.
I've been through the same pipeline, I thought the military for all its faults is at least sincere in the country thus the ends justify the means. I even bought into the whole 'Imran + Army hybrid is better than PMLN cause muh corruption'. Of course, reality is not so simple.
But as I grow older and I have entered professional life, I come to know that there is a reason why companies, organisations, institutions and countries are structured the way they are. There is a reason that functioning countries don't let their (often much more powerful) militaries run the country.
Yes, vast majority of officers 'run away' but when the order comes, they follow it. If a fauji was given order to storm parliament then he simply does it. He can runaway in spirit but reluctantly he will do it, because that is what it means to be a soldier. It is hammered into them from day one.
I also don't agree with 'its the usual ISI wing doing all this'. Pakistan Army has become a company, it doesn't matter Asim Munir, Faiz Hameed, Bajwa, Musharaf, Raheel, Kayani, Akhtar, Zia etc etc. They are all brought up on the same values, and they ALL resort to imposing rule through gun one way or another. Some are a bit more subtle with it like Munir, others like to jump over the walls of parliament. It's all the same
What is happening to PTI may be milder than what happened to people before it, but right now its PTI that is facing the chopping block. In about 10-15 years when Khan is dead I'll probably be backing some other underdog.
And how this relates to the current topic is very simple. We are being told that governer raj is being implemented because PTI is not just stopping operation, but it is in fact part of TTP somehow. Not only that, Sohail Afridi was secretly Heisenberg from Breaking Bad.
This is setting a dangerous precedent. I can't believe what my own country's fauj is saying anymore because I KNOW that there is a political angle involved. How can I be sure that they are saying the truth and not just doing this to get rid of last bit of resistance from Khan's main base of operation?
A future resolution at least remains possible if you have a civilian setup because then there can be chance for constant change. Don't like PTI? vote them out. Don't like the next party? vote them out. With the military you get no such luxury. Its them and their ways forever.
