We have good strikers. Taremi, Azmoun and Mohebbi are decent strikers with international experience but our defense has been a complete mess since Ghalenoi became our coach. Sad that Sardar missed the world cup because of his stupidity. He clearly regrets it now. Anyway, I rewatched our match against New Zealand today. Both of the goals we conceded were super basic. Shoja was definitely responsible for the first goal.Yeah, they are hyper nationalists, though I think the average Iranian is still a bit more deluded, lol. Their team is far superior to ours in technical ability (although we usually draw against them). The ranking system is hilarious, we beat most Asian teams and they rank us 20th in the world, even though we are largely evenly matched with the technical ability of New Zealand, ranked 80th.
Our defence is worse than it has been in a long time. I didn't think I'd be missing Cheshmi, but here we are. Not having Hosseini or Gholizadeh are also big misses.
I even remembered your comment about the age of our players. But we conceded our first goal on the 7th minute and our second goal on the 53rd minute. When you concede such basic goals right after the whistle, it's certainly not because of age or exhaustion. We just had terrible defense throughout the match. I think we should switch to 3 center backs and use some sort of 5-4-1 and park the bus against Belgium.
