Brazilian street justice (certainly in the favelas) if they did not have tons of security.

Brazilians are used to their team underperforming compared to its glory days. On the other hand, not much can top getting thrashed 7–1 in a World Cup semi-final on home soil (Maracana).

Nobody in Brazil expected them to win.

A bit sad as Brazil had a mythical aura when I first started watching football as a kid. Brazil was probably the most popular team for neutrals across the world because they had so many entertaining players. They also had many likable players.

Throughout history Brazil (which has one of the world's largest Arab diasporas) had many players of Arab origin (one of the most famous was Zagallo - one of the few people in World Cup history who won the World Cup both as a player and manager) so we used to have sympathy for them as well for this reason. Same with Argentina.

Ronaldo (original one) shirts were found everywhere whenever football was played on the streets or football pitches in the late 1990's and early 2000's. Later it was Ronaldinho.

But you cannot win every single time and simply put they are not good enough to win the World Cup. When you have not won for 24 years in a row (6 tournaments in a row now), it is no coincidence. I don't think that they will win the World Cup anytime soon either but you never know.
