Exactly nothing holds them together not language and not culture. Hinduism is basically 1000 different religions put under one umbrella by the west. When the going gets tough India reverts back to the caveman days and balkanise.

I partially agree with you Without Hinduism, India would look like Pakistan: different ethnicities at each other’s throats.

Hinduism binds India’s peoples through a shared civilizational core, dharma, the epics, pilgrimage, and acceptance of multiple paths, without demanding one ethnicity, language, or rigid creed. Local identities are absorbed, not erased. This creates cohesion that supports trade, migration, and prosperity across diversity.

Nepal shows the same pattern. When it abandoned its Hindu state character for secularism, ethnic conflict and social anarchy followed. The push to restore Hindu status is a direct response to that breakdown. Shared Dharmic continuity is what holds the subcontinent’s peoples in place and allows them to prosper instead of fragment.
