During Deng, Jiang and Zhu's eras, there were rampant corruptions that are true even today to some extent, that corruptions and also uncontrolled inflations at the time were what really fueled the 1989 protest. I thought Jiang and Zhu had a good work relationship starting their partnership in Shanghai as party secretary and mayor.

Without Jiang, China would be fully privatized by Deng and Zhu, and would become a true servant to the US.

Jiang wasn't an anti-US champion himself, he also admired the US strength during his time, but he was just a sane person who believed that full privatization and westernization that championed by Deng and Zhu was wrong.

Xi also wasn't anti-US during his first term, until Trump and other anti-China hardliners in the US forced him to become fully vigilant.

I am from Shanghai, and Shanghai is de facto a very bipolarized place.

The rich from Shanghai were mostly Hanjian who supported the KMT and loved Deng's promise of full privatization.

The Petite bourgeoisie in Shanghai were oxymorons who got brainwashed by the rich Hanjian in Shanghai.

All working class in Shanghai staunchly support Mao, and CPC also chose Shanghai to be its birthplace because of the support from the working class.

BTW, I am a descendant of the KMT, but I have to admit that KMT is full of Hanjian and deserved to be overthrown by the Chinese people.

And the only Hanjian that I see as sh1tty as the KMT are the rich oligarch protected by Deng and Zhu.

Yeah, seems many people complain that Shanghai is the most pro-West or US city in China. I think the state should control the national economy and corporations at least 50%, better be a hybrid of Socialist and Capitalist economy. Also, Deng and his followers are the most compromising group among the CPC factions.

No wonder most people in Mainland China overwhelmingly favor Mao over Deng, only few westernized Chinese from Hong Kong and Taiwan want to create an illusion that most Chinese people from the Mainland China love Deng and view Mao as a paranoid tyrant.

Why those Hanjian and westerners love Deng so much?

Japan and Singapore mourn the death of former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji

The Embassy of Japan in China lowered its flag to half-mast on Thursday to express its condolences on the passing of former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji.

The official social media accounts of the Embassy posted a photo of the flag at half-mast this morning along with the caption “In remembrance of his excellency Zhu Rongji, former Premier of the People's Republic of China.”

The Embassy said that Japan’s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi separately conveyed condolences to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qian, while Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi expressed condolences to Foreign Minister Wang Yi, both highlighting the contributions made by Zhu to the development of Japan-China relations.

Separately, Prime Minister of Singapore Lawrence Wong Shyun Tsai also expressed his deepest condolences to Zhu’s family and the people of China.

“He advanced China’s economic reforms and guided its accession to the World Trade Organization in 2001, shaping a period of profound transformation for the country,” Wong wrote.

Wong noted that Zhu was also “an old friend of Singapore” as he played an important role in strengthening ties between the two countries, including through his support for the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park. “He was also a strong advocate of closer economic links between ASEAN and China, helping to lay the foundations for the extensive cooperation we see today,” Wong
