Frustrated Google employee wants to quit as half of his teammates are Indians

Off topic but somewhat related:
I have no personal experience, but Indian Muslims (IM) I have spoken to, tell a different story about the Indian professionals they work alongside in India; in both the private and public sector organizations. .. The IM face insults, harassment, physical assaults, denial of leave on Eid , refusal for prayer time on Fridays and no accommodation of Ramadan evening timings for Iftar . The last is particularly difficult due to the fact that BOPs in India work to North American and European timezones. A BOP serving North American and European client's would be working from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m Indian Time to serve both UK and East Coast USA.
In Hyderabad India I personally observed Muslims ( the very few that were there ), working late snacking on potato chips and a bottle of water for Iftar. To be fair, I was treated like a Royal Guest being a guest from the client; so even though I am not religious, and was not fasting but even then I had a sumptuous Iftar served to me in my office along with hot tea.

Unsurprisingly the IMs are conveniently "filtered out" for overseas assignments so there are practically zero Indian Muslim techies. The social media in India refer to IMs as "the Puncture wala" Madarsa chaap " ; since IMs have descended to the bottom of the economic ladder and some are involved in the car tire repair business.

Regardless, I must confess that I enjoyed the most extravagant hospitality during my frequent trips to India and despite my secular stance was repeatedly asked if I needed to be transported to the nearby mosque on Friday, or if I wanted halal food.
Of course I politely refused due to my organization ethics policies. I did accept one eat out dinner at a place called "36 " and I had some nice biryani and Kingfisher beer
An American passport, helped to keep me safe.

That's a good point

I have never come across an Indian Muslim in these Bangalore it/tech jobs

My sample is not insignificant

Since you’re so sceptical, feel free to write to me at my alumni email — [email protected] and [email protected] I’m sure reality will be a bit harder to dismiss then. 😉

Pardon me, do you expect to be believed when you are begging for validation on an anonymous online forum while presenting demonstrably nonsensical claims? If so, then you've embarrassed your alma mater. It's not the flex you thought it was.

I just hope Indian IT workers get replaced by AI. There are too many of them everywhere. Like a virus.
Hey you might get your wish. Only problem is that AI agents are controlled by humans. They might end up being Indian too

Go to linkedin and type a semi-large well known Indian university. you will see plenty of Muslim names - Ahmed, Mohammad, Salim etc

Hopefully none of you are Googlers!

A growing conversation around workplace diversity has surfaced at Google, whwere employees are voicing concerns over cultural homogeneity within teams, particularly in engineering and technical roles. One employee, who spoke on condition of anonymity on Team Blind, described a noticeable shift in team composition over recent years. “My manager is Indian, my skip-level manager is Indian, and even their manager is Indian,” the employee said. “My team is split between India and other regions, but nearly all my teammates are Indian, except for what seem like a few hiring anomalies.”

While emphasising that the concern is not about individuals or ethnicity, the employee shared feelings of cultural disconnect and a loss of the team diversity that once made collaboration enjoyable. “There was a time when our team had people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, it made the environment more vibrant, open, and fun. Now, I often feel like an outlier.” The employee also suggested that this dynamic has impacted their sense of inclusion and belonging at the company, and shared that they are currently planning to leave the organisation.

The Internet swiftly reacted to the post. A user said, “In a world of woketards, it’s a rather avant garde perspective, but it doesn’t have to be.” Another noted, “You can still have fun with Indians.” Every fifth person in the world is Indian. Deal with it,” noted a user. A netizen claimed, “I am in California. All the employees in the company are Indian. The neighborhood I lived are all Indian. Sometimes I don’t know if I am in India or United States.”

“There are only 2 Americans on my team, the rest are all Indian. My pillar up to the VP is only 3% Americans. And I choose to use the term “Americans” bc i’m not hyper-focused on the team being white, I actually want to see legit diversity on our teams (race, ethnicity, gender, etc). I’m more concerned that we work for an American Company and make up a tiny fraction of the headcount. And it has absolutely nothing to do with capability/intelligence, and everything to do with ethnic empire building on the inside,” added a user.

A user claimed, “What is it with west’s obsession about having forced diversity? Like why does an engineering team or a company needs to be diverse over meritocracy? What purpose does diversity serve? Tiktok in China was built by 100% Chinese and it got adoption all over the world, so don’t say diversity is required for creating a global product. Few decades ago, US created many global brands with just Americans working for those companies.”

as long as the place of work is kept as a place of work and not a dating and friendship site then the race, ethnicity and religion shouldn't be a problem. if the employee is not facing any racism or pressure by his Indian colleagues and he is supported and treated professionally then he should shut up. my experience with Indian colleagues is very good.

I guess the Adanis, Ambanis, and Tatas are above the Google and Microsoft CEOs . Which is why your bridges never collapse, and your national carrier planes don't crash. 😊
Extreme in intelligence.

I would rank Adani over Satya Nadella any day. At least he can finance a regime over 1.5 billion people.
I would also rank Baba Ramdev whose Panchgavya product is far more profitable than Google. It has divine sanctity.

Well someone lacks basic comprehension of business

Satya Nadella does not own Microsoft. He serves as CEO as the pleasure of the shareholders who are represented by Board of Directors. Before you poo poo the Microsoft board of directors they have accomplished more than 250 million Pakistanis. A lot of CEOs have not delivered 2000% returns Nadella has presided over. A lot of CEOs do not survive as long as Nadella did.

I choose Adobe, Microsoft and Google because of their longevity, their returns and their tenure as CEOs. Look at parade of CEOs at Intel. It is not easy being a CEO. You pretend like it is being Prime Minister of Pakistan where you can smooch up to the generals and keep your job.

Adani on the other hands runs his own company. He might be corrupt businessman with shady financial practices. I suppose he is not accountable to anyone. He might be an oligarch whose fortunes are somewhat dependent on who is in power in India.

So I guess you wouldn’t believe me if I said I graduated from both Oxford and Cambridge, worked at a top-tier investment bank, and then chose to return to India? Funny how reality messes with stereotypes, isn’t it?
So what did you study?

I first studied Computer Science, worked for a while, and then specialised in Public Policy with a focus on technology-related issues at the other university.
