July 05, 2026

I am 80. After Covid attack in miserable condition. Recently was hospitalized in isolation-ward Oxygen having dangerously dropped down. In this condition speaking lies is of no use. I do remember it was sometime mid 1970s when at about 11.30 am I dropped a letter into the road side letter box outside Saddar Karachi Post Office. Around 04.00 pm I received phone the addressee had got it. The postage paid was Rs. 1.50. How this speed and efficiency? Administration was sincere, simple with no Ministry or Minister; only a DG heading it. Even in this age I do remember two nice gentlemen Haji Ismail Dy.PMG Karachi and Mr. Shafi Field Inspector. Pakistan Post will never ever find such people. Start 1980s every new comer since come on “merit”, started new and new schemes without ensuring matching infrastructure similarly as Sheikh Rasheed ran a new train against technical advice not to and the train met a big accident. The new commers started announcing “Department’s own aero planes, strting hotels” – the result destruction.

2. The leadership of the Federal Minister for Communications His Excellency Aleem Khan, according to newspapers of June 09, 2026 is
continuing strengthening Pakistan Post's position as a key public service institution in evolving digital economic. As such in this effort to spearhead a massive modernization drive to avert ongoing “financial losses”, the Minister has removed Samiullah Khan from the post of DG Post and replaced with Squadron Leader (retd) Maqsood Ahmed who would submit in three months a Report to His Excellency what he gave to the Department.

3. How empty, as usual, are these words and the intents to cover up financial losses. Passport home delivery has been given to the private courier according to today’s newspapers. First of all the most important is, is this Government’s own on its own postal services or it is the lack of any real practical intent of the concerned Minister, new DG and the Department as a whole that it did not struggle to get this contact through higher level. Is this does not prove true the proverb گَھر کی مُرغی دال برابر
Passport home delivery was being learnt in newspapers since about 8-10 months. Did the DG or the Department knew it is a big potential chance of income to cover up losses? Did they started struggling to ensure job is assigned to them? Did Pakpost participate in any tender or bid issued by Interior Division or only one private party was invited to quote? In a country where at an average one in a fortnight a scandal surfaces no one will either give answer to these questions nor would ever any one ask.

4. Recently the National Assembly allowed installation of telecom boosters right inside of our homes which due to country enemy anchors had to be halted in the Senate. As to how this strange bill could succeed in Assembly, the senior anchor Najam Sethi answered in one 5-digit “word”. It is universally believed that pharmaceutical, telecom and couriers keep lot extra budgets for “PR”. Did Najam Sethi’s answered 5-digit word also played any role in this vital contact going in the hands of a private concern and no one from the Department not surprisingly moved over it? I worked in 1960-70s for 17 years in Government service in Pakistan. If any such income was lost, it was termed as inefficiency of the concerned top and mostly action was taken.

5. Pakistan Post in 1986 started its Urgent Mail Service initially covering 12 cities. It delivered article within 24 working hours @ Rs. 6/-. It was a wonderful service. That time there were only two courier companies in Pakistan. This cheap service soon became very successful. Mushroom private petty courier services grew up which booked items on high cost but used this Urgent Mail Service network for delivery. Soon insiders started protecting the wrong done of these private companies. I myself received “letters” from Pakistan, the sender banks using the private company to which today due to its PR passport delivery contact has today been given to it. How sweet is this PR can be taken from one example. A Bank from Karachi sent me a simple one age letter. It was just a simple message. It spent Rs. 1800. I could never understood why the same could not be sent to me just in Rs. 130 by Pakistan Post Registered Mail – the only answer I could get it was sweet PR sweetness of which makes courier use madly. But since then the courier had no international network then, these letters reached me with postage stamps affixed from Bahrain Post and posted locally from Bahrain Post. I sent these envelopes to the Pakpost Headquarters never togete even an acknowledge despite reminders confirming general belief that some protectors were there.

6. It be remembered Pakistan Post had more extended network than any private courier and touches right from Kemari beach to Landi Kotal. It had more three services like Airex etc delivery same day in big cities.

7. I congratulate the new DG for his excellent achievements in such a short span of three week time. Wonderful. Thank you Your Excellency for giving this unfortunate country a new management.

8. Three four years back after failing any response from the then DG Pakistan Post, I approached the Federal Ombudsman that the Department had displayed on its website some 25-30 emails most of which are not working or are bogus. I quoted example of email given that of PMG Karachi. There was no shame at all in giving an official written response that the displayed email was “not working”. If it was not operative why then it was on the official website? Only to fool the public and just to complete a formality. I never heard what the Federal Ombudsman the protector of citizens rights found or did but what I know is till end 2025 all those were still there. It is to everyone having a brain to interpret what came out of this fool’s taking up the issue. conscientious citizens” term.

9. As far as Department’s suffering losses are concerned. It is amazing that despite raising fees say like from Rs. 50 to Rs. 500 registered letter fee for an international letter the Department still is in financial losses. The then Communication Minister was termed the best Minister due to earning more revenue due to these fees. While any type of tax, levy or surcharge can be levied, private homes can be entered for installing mobile towers, why not our concerned Minister gets a levy initially of Rs. 25 through every electricity bill as “Postman Entry to doors despite facing dogs”. If PTV can get entry of Rs. 50 despite the fact today except for anchors no one watches PTV, why can’t our Pakistan Post which still reaches once or twice almost every home of the country.

10. A registered letter was sent from abroad which at 07.53 am was received at Karachi International Mail Office. It be remembered Karachi international mail office opens officially at 08.00 am and we all know how much time it take in arranging equipment, accessories and in starting practically the work. At 09.04 am it was sent to Customs. At Custom normal procedure is recording inward entry, handing over to an examiner, examine, clear, re-enter for outward journey. Customs completed all this with jet speed and within three minutes and completing all at 09.07 returned back to the International Mail Office. Within one next minute at 09.08 am the IMO made all entries and process and in one minute inserted the letter in the IMO Karachi Bag. At 11.48 am it was received at IMO Karachi and within next 16 minutes at 12.04 pm it was sent to HBL Post Office. If it was sent to HBL Post Office then within afternoon or next early morning it should had been delivered to the Bank. Next entries speak the reality of “sent to HBL Post Office”.

11. If Entries and timings are concentrated, it would suggest as if the International Mail Office Inward and the Customs both had no other postal item to deal with for the day except for one single one that of mine.

12. Next day the letter started re-journey. Here hold your breath. The item at 11.46 am was received from International Mail Office at Karachi City GPO and within a minute at 11.47 am was sent “out for delivery” whereas previous day at 12.00 it had already gone to HBL Post Office . It appears as if the City GPO all concerned staff namely opening of mail bag received from IMO, recording each item, sorting for delivery to the concerned postman’s beat all was completed within this one minute and the post office like a soldier already stood in full swing to fire out, took the item in hand went out for delivery.

13. Received at 11.46 am and “Sent out for delivery” at 11.46 am is very important to note. Delivery universally means from City GPO the postman went to the area for delivery. However, at 03.27 pm when the postman had gone out for “delivery” it landed at Sindh PMG Office which high level is nothing to do with a letter and is situate to my knowledge in Clifton whereas addressee situates just on the front side of the road city post office is.

14. Reaching Sindh PMG at 03.27 same minute at 03.27 “
Delivered at delivery office KARACHI CITY GPO to ADDRESSEE”. All postmen after collecting mail from the delivery zone and sorting out street wise till 11.30 am invariably all leave the post office for delivery in the best. No post man is available in any post office after 12.00 am. Postman left at 03.27 amazing.

15. Donlad Trump recently praised Pakistanis that they were skill full. How true it is. It is believe lkazer-scanners and computer timings can’t be manufactured but we can do even that. All processes in one minute is a crying proof. Congratulation for this efficiency the new Management.

What is this ? Someone trying to imitate Mr Cowasjee's style and topics ?
