Qatar bought 24 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters and 9 HAWK trainer aircraft for $6.7 billion, meaning Turkey must pay $6 billion to Qatar if it wants to buy Qatari fighters, which is a very high price. Why is Qatar thinking of selling its fighters after these huge numbers without benefit or profits? The truth is that the Turks are also in a corner because of the difficulty of Qatar agreeing except for a large economic consideration. If Qatar agreed at all, because it is not easy to obtain fighters. Qatar sells old MIRAGE-2000 fighters for $750 million, and they were produced in 1997. The real solution for the Turks is to obtain Germany’s approval and reduce the conditions because the solutions to buy old Eurofighter fighters from Britain, Tranch 1, do not provide much. The European position has changed because Israel signed huge arms deals with America and Egypt signed deals with China for more than one fighter, and the economic crises make the Europeans use the card of selling fighters to get money. Therefore, the German condition is that European ammunition for the Typhoon only to ensure continuous ammunition sales to Turkey. The solution The other thing for the Turks is to go to the Americans to provide fighters and engines for Turkey instead of submitting to the Germans and dismantling the S-400 systems until the Americans agree to better terms. The time factor remains pressing on the Turks due to the obsolescence of the F-4 & F-16 fighter structures and the acceleration of the development of the Greek Air Force. The main projects for national weapons require very long times. The tank project was supposed to be produced in 2014, and the same thing. All submarines were delayed for 10 years, and the same thing for the KAAN fighter will require many years outside the optimistic plans. All of this requires years until contracting for new aircraft. This requires 3 years for the first fighter to enter after contracting and depositing the first payment for the deal. The West has been playing with Turkey since 2019 in order to obstruct its air force, and it is clear that their plans are captive because relying on the West for armament is considered a risk with disastrous consequences.
