Gunman opens fire at crowded Australia beach, people rush for shelter

I don't think we can even put a Pakistani or any other country's label on the guys.. 1998 was the year when he moved to Australia, and the son was born there... It's an Australian security apparatus failure more than anything.

Australians are not dumb like other nations.. They will ask relevant questions from their government as to why these guys remained unchecked even when there were hints of one of them was linked to IS.

And then the questions will be asked about the Islamic school/ mosque these guys usually attended. All Muslims of that area in specific will be looked at with a suspicion..

Its mostly not the mosque, the ideology is spread in the streets, someone knows someone and they find recruits, someone who is not happy with life and what's happening around the world. Australia agencies should have arrested them when they saw a threat but waited it out, in the UK London bridge shooting the shooter spent years in Jail under terrorism charges but when he was released he went to do the deed. Raises big question marks.

He could equally be confusing Indian with Pakistani, or referring to South Asia collectively in that phrase. We here are precise, but most non asians are not that precise. Jury is still out on origin of the father.

He said he worked with the son so I don't think its assumption as it must have come up in conversation.

Did he apply for his Australian passport? Which country he came from as a student?
You mean the father?

I don't know, but I don't think he ever was an Australian citizen.

That wasn't from my source, by the way (well, my source did tell me the father was on a student visa and the name of the family is from the source too), that (The visa process of the older shooter) was from the ASIO guy on the brief this morning.

In the western world ISIS types freely brainwash people, alot of them have connections with secret agencies, they use alot of emotional blackmail, constant propaganda, materials, friendships, promise of Jannah etc to get recruits, mostly people with emotional and personal issues join them, from being loonies they feel like they are part of something great. Many educated doctors also fall for it. We witnessed how people left the western countries and joined ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the propaganda and confusion is powerful. The same way it happens in the Muslim world, the recruiters mostly use grievances and propagate it so much that some hot headed or idiot falls for them, they mostly stay in contact with them for many years and slowly overtake their mind. People blame Maddrassas but these guys never set a foot inside maddrassa, they have less Islamic education but more brainwashing, emotional blackmail.

That is an excellent observation. I wasn't aware that this shit goes this deep.

Holy shit. If that is true this will boomerang very badly for the Indians. All the propaganda and hours of lying on social media sites will bite them in the rear.

I remember the first piece of news I watched on TV in Melbourne in 2001 which was about a thief who sued the house owner where this theif went to steal things but got injured on a knive or some other sharp object which was lying on the floor. The amazing thing I remember was the the thief winning the case.

Coming to your post, although I agree with your point, and I would probably have shot the attacker if I were in the position of the hero, atleast in the leg or arm to immobilize him until LEAs got there. However, considering my point above, who would want to shoot the unarmed assailant who would also have rights and would eventually be able to sue the 'Hero'??
Maybe I am too harsh on it, I said that not to say Ahmed should do this, I said that to emphasis how out of control the pair were, I mean you can't be more out of control for you to lose your firearm when you are the shooter.

I do see why Ahmed didn't shoot him when he got the shotgun. Some people don't resort to violence, no matter how much they are facing, or what they are capable of, sometimes, when someone feels they have seen enough violence

And I am pretty sure one watch of the real-time footage, any lawsuit would have gone away, I will say when he disarmed the guy, the situation is still hot, it's still a life threatening situation. He could have shot him without consequence.

Son born in Australia but father? Why they are keeping his identity secret?
Probably to prevent stuff we are talking about. So we don't villify anyone.

Who he was or where he came from is not really the matter here, other than some talking point for someone in a particular group. What he had done, and how he had done is what we should have focused on. He could be from anywhere, knowing where the father is from does not help solve the situation or prevent this from happening next time.
