H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

@Meengla sb

Is it not possible for them to reduce their salaries to H1B levels? Surely that salary will still be better than Uber Eats earnings.

It doesn't work like that: From what I have seen, veteran American techies would be willing to work for even $50,000/year, which is better than unemployed or Uber Eats. But corporations rightly don't trust a techie to willing to work for long at that salary. Plus, there is the bias of hiring from 'your own' background, which Indians in America are often accused of.

Yes, it is the safety in numbers approach of every decision point being 'occupied' to always have a favourable outcome for you.

Problems for America are already happening due to the overwhelming presence of ill-prepared, unimaginative foreign workers dominating the IT sector: Websites like NY Times, You Tube, some financial websites which used to work flawlessly until just few years ago, often have issues. If anyone has worked at the multi-billion $$ TCS (Tata Consultive Services) would know what I am talking about--a multi BBBBILION $$ company with a huge presence in America.
Also, having worked with foreign 'talent' as a software engineer myself, they are most of the time, at best, suited for repetitive tasks. Not much 'out of the box', not much imagination, not much initiative, and not much QA control... You know the idiom: You get what you pay for. So, one day, such hiring decisions would come to bite America hard on its a$$ with disasters.

@Meengla sb,

Not much 'out of the box', not much imagination, not much initiative,

How about utilising the high-quality American talent, now wasted in delivering Uber Eats, in these kinds of roles?

@Meengla sb

How about companies employing H1Bs doing the mundane jobs and these high quality native talent working for another set of companies doing the creative parts?

This whole thread sounds like I wandered into some white MAGA subreddit by mistake. The level of salty obsession over Indians doing well in tech is hilarious. Suddenly Pakistanis are out here worrying about the creative white tech workers being pushed out? Please. This isnt about Americas future, it’s just frustration that Indians climbed the ranks while you guys are still throwing commentary from the sidelines.

I still remember the 2000s on tech forums, constant complaining about white hiring bias, how Indian engineers struggled because some managers only wanted to hire their own. Look at how the tables have turned. Indians adapted, upskilled, networked, and built entire pipelines. And our Pakistani brothers? Watching from the sidelines then… and still doing the same now.

And whatever noise the MAGA crowd is making today is just temporary. America didn’t become great by doing socialism or hiding behind protectionist walls. Its strength came from openness, talent, capitalism, and competition and those same reasons will keep it great for a long time.

If you had actually read the thread you would have seen that the complaints in tech and H1b is because of the lack of merit when it comes to jobs and visas. The jobs and visas are steered to Indians only. That's what needs to change.

America has lost out on talent and skills because of this approach. Anyone who has worked with these Indians, onshore or offshore knows only a few of them are actually qualified.

African Americans, Latinos and women have been the biggest losers of these jobs going to Vijay and Sanjay from Bengaluru.

I don't disagree with this at all.

As noted somewhere else in this thread, the company Mrs. AZ used to work for is in the middle of a major transformation of its IT and accounting systems. They've retained a Pak consultancy to drive. So far, the feedback with the Pak partners has been outstanding.

what supposed issue exists with the American education system? I mean, after all, there are a lot of qualified Americans who cannot find a job And there are allegations that companies purposefully avoid hiring Americans who are qualified, so that they can apply to bring in H1B workers who are cheaper (https://www.forbes.com/sites/caroli...d-at-job-hunting-30-of-job-postings-are-fake/) ..
Also, you need to remember, India is the place with the largest number of faked university degrees
@MuzBongEthnonationalist bro,
I’m glad you brought up the American education system. It’s a whole different ball game. To give you an idea, most Desi families (especially Indians) and Chinese families prefer to send their children to Grade A schools. But in the second semester of the last year of high school, they move the kid to a lower grade school so the child can get a college scholarship without facing any competition. Basically, messing up the careers of low income families kids.

But you’ve already mentioned the root cause of the H-1B issue: companies intentionally avoid hiring qualified Americans so they can bring in cheaper H-1B workers. And they still claim there’s a shortage of IT professionals.

The same mess exists in the trucking industry, which is flooded with Indians, Chinese, and Eastern Europeans. Many people get a CDL license but can’t even speak or read English. Yet the American Trucking Association keeps insisting there’s a shortage of truck drivers as same as Tech industries.

These are the few examples of gaming the system and I admit Indians have done PHD in this.

Don't be too sure about that. The MAGA really doesn't like you.
