H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

When Indians get H1-B visas it is in the best interest of India.

When Indians don't get H1-B visas it is in the best interest of India.

Which one is true?

at the end of the day smart people survive anywhere. it is the below average crowd of Indians who is on h1b who get punished by these restrictions

That is what is being proposed under Trump

starting Jan 2025 ...

I doubt they will retroactively strip anyone of passports unless it was fraudlently obtained

H1B is not cheaper than American quite the opposite and wonder why they hire people? How can Americans fill a job that was put in place because there was no one to take that job in the first place .

Low quality H1-B visa scam. The Americans are brighter and much better qualified to do these jobs.

There are 20,000-30,000 such Indians. It is a drop in the bucket compared to 1 million low skilled Hispanic refugees who were entering illegally

I work in Canada via H1B sponsorship.

Hey, at least it's there ancestral land

Incompetent people always blame others for their failures . This is true not only in the US but all over the world. What this woman doesn't realise that the kind of low-end IT job her husband is looking for can be done from anywhere in the world and even if H1B visas are ended , the employers will find someone more competent than him to do the job in Canada, Mexico, Latin America, India , Pakistan , Phillipines , etc.

By the way, if you are not going to be be on the top of the field and involved in cutting edge research, it is a very bad time to get a degree in an Information Technology field. A lot of the low end coding jobs are being replaced by AI and most will not exist in a few years.

I mean as someone born and bred in the US, and you're white and you're struggling against a H-1B, im sorry. But this is the survival of the fittest.
If you can't beat a foreigner in your home town for a job, you're useless. H-1B attracts the best brains around the world. It's not just limited to Indians. Asians, Africans, Europeans, anyone can apply for it. The fact that the Indians are killing it is because of skills, not because they're Indians.

Naturally, AI will be the end of H-1B, that is if the Indians won't dominate AI from here on.

My own experience with some of the Indian teams is we had to give them the pseudo-code. At that point, we might as well have just finished it ourselves. Wasn't my call. Was the direction from the C-suites.

Fraud has been going on since the beginning of time. It is the job of the USCIS and other agencies to catch it. In any case, it is not the fraudulent candidates who just want to get into the US despite not being eligible and are unqualified to do the job that are taking the jobs from the mediocre Americans.

There is a huge variation in the quality of the CS talent pool coming out of Indian schools. I am guessing you were not working with CS undergrads from the original IITs.

NFC. All I can say is I was underwhelmed with the Indian teams.

I don't have to deal with that now. Someone else's problem.

Your limited experience is not representative of the general quality of the Indian tech talent pool. I have worked with Americans who have actually won the Nobel Prize and also some who are dumb as ****. I would considers myself extremely bigoted if I made a statement stereotyping Americans based on my interaction with a handful of them.

Good for you.

I ran an IT team for the better part of 10 years before going back into engineering. I was underwhelmed. We had H-1Bs from US Technologies, WiPro, Infosys, a couple of others. We (the company) were in love with them.

That said, there were a few who were damn good. They made up for the lack of ability of the rest of them. Also didn't take me long to figure out why they were rotating in and out so fast while the good ones were here for quite a few years.
