H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

H1Bs should be converted into Green Cards after 5 years the Indian and other Govs should be fighting for this or stop sending their workers to be exploited and abused.
There are country quotas for green cards every year and Indians have been blowing past those quotas for decades. Thats why green cards for Indians take much longer than usual. As I have mentioned previously , the H1b was created in early 90s to address genuine high skill shortages in American industries but H1b and related work visas were hijacked by tech to import foreign workers from just one country, India, to push down wages in just one industry.

The West will revert back to Christianity eventually, but it will be a reactionary conversion to a large amount of the Western people accepting Islam.

Interesting times ahead!
Europeans are not religious. Americans are. Canadians are not that religious either. lol.

It is mainly Middle Eastern, South Asian, Central Asian, and South East Asian countries that are religious. Oh I forgot African countries are religious as well.

Americans are not as religious as they were 50 years ago.

Central and South America are still very religious.
Americans are religious compared to Canadians and Europeans. lol.
But yeah, Americans are not that religious.

My Indian Tenant was on H1B and had been in the US as a software engineer for 8 Years , his last salary was $400k / year. He got laid off from Microsoft and was unable to find a job for over year and had to go back to India as his H1B had run out. He was in tears as he didn't want to go back. He was really living the American dream, had a high end VW SUV, going hiking every weekend around the State, was member of a exclusive tennis and golf club etc. I really felt sorry for the guy but there was nothing I could do for him. There is widespread racism in Silicon Valley and no brown/yellow skinned person is immune from it. Where Indians have Indian managers/owners they maybe safe else they are in tenuous employment. A lot of racists hire to fire as it gives them perverse pleasure and satisfaction. Unfortunately a lot of people are a paycheck away from homelessness that's why the US has a homeless crisis.

American dream is just a dream until it turns into a nightmare, a fake carrot designed to fool people into being exploited. H1Bs should be converted into Green Cards after 5 years the Indian and other Govs should be fighting for this or stop sending their workers to be exploited and abused.

H1B was to be a temporary status to fill the gap in the market for the lack of skill sets; the issue we are having now is that we have low demand and more tech and engineers in the current market; we are churning out more, and layoff cycles are exacerbating the issue. The other issue is that the workers in STEM developed the mindset that this was to be a permanent solution and passport in the end, as if the U.S. owed them this much.

You are right however Indians claim the H1b was a "dual intent visa" , inferring that the US indeed owed them a passport at the end.

I remember NRI's being glorified in India back in 2000 and even Indians in the US proudly claiming so and so got hired in tech jobs so easily because they were Indians, so yeah over the years Indians felt entitled to a high paying job in the US via H1b, which would culminate in citizenship.

Please research about the student visa. here's the link, just in case..

I do not see why a MS student gets visa longer than 2 years - maybe 3 years. A lot of these are common sense reforms

This is not an "Indian claim", but what the law states. Dual intent visa just means the visa officer is not required to satisfy himself that the applicant intends to return to their home country after the visa expiry date. For example, unlike a B1 visa, which is not dual intent, the lack of a return ticket would not normally be a ground to refused admittance.

h1b visas must end. I agree with that.
with the now stagnant and crumbling economies and housing, healthcare and other things getting harder to get for locals, its time to send all the jobless temps back. Give the jobs to Americans. There's enough kids/youth in every US city/state to take these jobs from these temp workers

The gulf countries all do the same, they send the workers back even after 30-40 yrs of service. No path to permanent residency or citizenship and they do just fine.

It all depends on the authorities. They need to understand that laid-off citizens first apply for unemployment benefits, and after that six-month period, if they still don’t have a job, they will then move to food stamps, Medicaid, and other benefits.

In short, a taxpayer ends up becoming a welfare recipient..

H1b are also used by Pakistani immigrants, though their numbers are small. So the H1b cannot end as its utilized by industries with genuine shortage eg nursing.

But what needs to change is Indians getting 70 to 80% of H1b every year and also the visa being used to displace local workers by importing cheaper foreigners.
