H-1B visas must end’: Wife of US citizen shares plight of landing IT jobs

I find it hard to keep one job let alone 10+ jobs

I have not been working from any in-office job for almost ten years and I refuse to work from anywhere except home and that limits my options a lot but I can't deal with offices anymore. Some hiring agents had been surprised when I refused to work 'on the side' for their roles while keeping my existing job. I am a workaholic and can't imagine juggling jobs. Plus I really thought it would not be fair to my existing job.
But one of my colleagues at a job confided to me that he was working FULL TIME at another job; I think he got caught and was laid off rather unceremoniously with his 'access' cut off abruptly and was asked to return the laptop immediately if wanted to get his last paycheck. It was part of 'Reduction in Force' where I too got laid off but I was kept for three more months while I trained my replacements and no guess needed who they were!!!

Can someone please for the life of me explain how exactly these firms scam the system?

Infosys takes a contract from Walmart to run their IT? They then hire the folks back in India? Where does H1B come in?
The immigrants are the ones who scam/defraud the system, as far as I understand.

Same happens in UK - exaggerated or false sponsorship claims or claims of contracts that are de facto non-existent.

The firms certainly exploit the system at the expense of the local workforce, which is a separate issue, but is also being thoroughly scrutinised now in USA.

"...the evidence at trial showed that Prasad fraudulently used the digital signature of a Cisco employee, who was not authorized to sign Cisco employment documents, to create a document that would leave the impression that two of the H-1B workers had an existing work project at Cisco. Prasad obtained two of the H-1B visas using this fraudulent document that purports to be a fully executed Cisco contract."

@Jango sb

But how are these companies exactly scamming the H1b system?

That is the point. They are not. The issue is that a large number of H1B visa holders come from one particular country which offers a large cohort of reasonably skilled professionals at reasonable price points.

The allegations of scamming are largely levelled by some American professionals who have lost out and by nationals/emigrants from another nation (a neighbour of that nation incidentally) who are jealous of the success of that said nation.

Regards
No nation is "jealous" of the "success" attained by another nation through simple uncontrolled procreation.

In fact, this is a dangerous delusion that will continue to feed the Indian policy of "success" through population pressure (and the associated relatively lower aspirational standards of said population) alone. As you inferred, the work is mediocre and cheap, simply undercutting domestic talent or talent from other nations; and thwarting firms' attempts to enhance quality of output and innovation, in lieu of simply reducing costs for a better short term profit margin.

Twist: Abhijeet Prasad paid a handsome amount and is now roaming free!

Why? Because Mr. Abhijeet Prasad is a millionaire.

He got rich by scamming and fooling people, selling them visas—
since Mr. Prasad was actually the front man for a lawyer.

(This is an actual story of visa fraud in the UK!)

Indian immigrants are the worst. They are dirty, scammers, cheaters, and annoying.

H1B1 should be cancelled. This one Trump policy I agree with.

Too many Indians. They need to go back to Incredible India.

When you throw 1.4 billion darts on a board, some of them would inevitably stick. But IF Arnab is right that the H1B changes are final and that India is being punished by Trump as part of some long term departure from India, then it really portends bad for India for at least short term. They have too many people to accommodate in India; there is no sugar coating that.

Because Indians know well how important is exporting their large surplus labor is for India. Arnab's BS video which I posted above in which he asked Indians to come back to India and build India itself is just BS!

And it is not just the H1Bs: Indians are really crapping on themselves over potentially losing the 9 million Indians who are working in the Middle East. English captions available:

If Americans really want to then they can make not only the H1Bs very costly but also find and prosecute the loopholes in offshoring. I am sure those in power in America know that offshoring is already on the minds of those trying to dull the pain from the recent H1B changes.
Since 9/11, money trails are very closely followed. The intent was to target international terrorism but much else also has been closely followed when money moves around. I was in Pakistan just a few weeks ago for a month and in currency exchange shops, I was impressed how they used my American and Pakistani documents when both buying and selling of USD to PKR. Such things are now more closely scrutinized, documented and shared between various intelligence agencies.

How do the headbobbing Hindu H1Bs achieve that? Do they keep a gun at the heads of the CEOs of the firms and forced them to hire themselves? Can't the firms simply pay higher, go for quality manpower, and improve "quality of output and innovation" rather than pick up the cheap HIB Indian?

Well, I have just received my first job offer; another six figure one. A 'Data Analyst' role. Trying to see if fake or not but I did have to answer some probing technical questions and also shared a data visualization dashboard; scammers generally don't ask for those things. However, any emails with international cricket sports stars names like 'Kevin Pieterson' are always a suspect--and too many times I have encountered Westernized names and upon phone chat, found barely understandable thick Indian accents. Hahaha!!

PS. If legit, I will thank President Trump a lot!! Actually, I had no issues with him on the 2024 elections voting except I knew he would be even harsher on the Palestinians then Biden was and that unfortunately has been proven true.

Visa restrictions on foreigners always opens up the white collar job market for ....let's say people that employers have biases against, like nonwhite or working mother or older or some sort of disability.

Hope the job is real and good for you.

Congrats. :) !!! Have you accepted it ?

Dont worry about the knowing about the role, there are lots of places to go and lean about Data / Data science before you start - hell, you can even spend some money on a book. Datalakes are interesting field to get into right now, they drive a lot of visualisation you referred to, as well as AI models themselves .

Great question.

This is where incentivisation and disincentivisation is ususally leveraged.

Now, the cheap and cheerful option has been disincentivised, legally and socially, thanks to MAGA. Firms will invest - one way or another - in actually facilitating an alternative workforce to the invading H1b tribals.

I suspect part of it will include accelerated "apprenticeship" programmes for local graduates; perhaps US government will further incentivise this route. It is one of the few things that worked well in UK in recent years to encourage employability of domestic graduates. Local competitiveness will also increase based on genuine cycles of quality improvement.

I remain optimistic that MAGA will make this work.
