HAL LCA Tejas: Updates, News & Discussions

‘No Confidence’: IAF Chief Scolds HAL

Tejas has become a ego program for India, any sane state would have cut their losses years ago

Eventually it may actually come to fruition, but the amount of time, money they have ploughed into this jet is ridiculous

Because the project is just constantly pushed back further and further, it put their airforce in a bind, it's flying coffins well past their retirement date and at best they may get 10-20 Tejas over the next few years

And from what the IAF chief is saying, their is serious annoyance because his words suggest they won't make the time lines they are suggesting

The plane is growing old before us

You could even tell the attitude of the HAL employees replying to the CAS, bordered on patronsing.

CAS even exposed the BS HAL has churned out.

They promised 11 planes, he saw 7
The MK1A is not really MK1A, only a slight software change and no new weapons

As he rightfully said earlier, "technology delayed is technology denied"

Am certain if he had his way IAF would have gone for a massive Rafale buy by now.

Issue is Tejas has become too big to fail and as you say, ego issue.

They are in the same situation with AMCA, their may be some crossover with parts from the Tejas program and AMCA but they are way way late, by the time AMCA gets off the ground and tested and produced probably be 2040 at best and that's being positive.

They wasted time with the Tejas needlessly

This is why their is talk of Su57 and F35, because the sellers know that India is stuck, same with the Rafael.
India will pay through the nose to get planes

Tejas Mk1A LA-5033 and LA-5037 in the air over Bangalore during Aero India 2025.

The first 3 Tejas Mk1As have been flown with Category B (reserve) F-404 engines. To be swapped out with new engines when GE begins to supply them.

Indian Members will always come hear & say, "Don't worry, everything is under control."

But then, I can understand that they won't talk trash about their own tras...I mean Aircraft.

For a change, its good to get the view of how Indians truly feel about HAL & the great work they are doing...

Body languge and head shakes, voice influctuation, and over pronounciation tells you all what you need to know about the LCA program!!

The problem is HAL not the aircraft. .
In PDF also many indian users do criticize the HAL and other govt managed Defence Companies.

Chinese border is quite peaceful compared to Pakistani one. Looks like they missed Pakistani's memo to attack on their behalf.

LCA is enough for Pakistan. Might free up some su30 front western front. China will face Mig29UPG and SU30s with upcoming AESA upgrades.
Why act like a pigeon ?
I hope cat will not eat you.

First, my apologies if I have failed to convey my thoughts.

What I'm trying to convey is that while engine delay exists, that's not what I'm discussing (because it's already been discussed to death in this forum). My points of discussion are the following comments from the IAF Chief:

-Mazaa nahi aa raha hai,
-Tejas Mk1A jets showcased at the Aero India 2025 show are not Mk1A jets
-The aircraft that you flew, calling it Mk1A. It is not Mk1A.
-It cannot happen just by change of one software or by looks.
-When the weapons come and the capability comes, then it’s a Mk1A

These comment gives the impression that the IAF chief thinks the MK1A is no different from the MK1 in terms of capability, and that HAL only made cosmetic changes and renamed the MK1 to MK1A.

If that's true, then it's a serious matter, and HAL shouldn't be let off the hook for this lack of improved capability.
The 3 Tejas displayed were MK1A standards with all the internal changes(43 improvements across avionics, weapons & maintenance) done, but the Astra Asraam/weapon integration trials are pending.

That is the complete opposite of what the IAF CAS said, but do not let that stop you spouting....
