The construction of a new modular stadium, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, a first of its kind for cricket, is underway and is expected to be completed within a mere three months.

The 34,000-seat stadium is scheduled to host eight matches at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, including the high-profile fixture between India and Pakistan on 9 June.

The stadium will feature an array of seating options including premium and general admission, VIP and hospitality suites, as well as a unique party deck and cabanas.

Sustainability is at the forefront of this project. The grandstands, previously used for the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, are being repurposed for the T20 World Cup venue.

The design team behind this ambitious project is Populous, renowned for creating some of the most iconic stadia worldwide, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

In New York, they are the architect of record for both the New York Yankees and New York Mets.

“We are partnering with world-class suppliers to deliver the modular stadium to ensure that players and fans can enjoy an unforgettable experience across the eight matches in New York in June this year.”

The stadium will not only cater to cricket enthusiasts but also promises a world-class experience for all guests. It will feature a dedicated fan zone, a variety of food and beverage outlets, and state-of-the-art media and broadcast areas.

The wicket, a drop-in square similar to those used at Adelaide Oval and Eden Park, is currently being curated in Florida. It will be transported to New York in early May.

The venue, 30 miles east of Manhattan, will have good transport and parking facilities, with three train stations also available in the vicinity.

Fans will have their opportunity to be a part of history by attending a festival of cricket and seeing the world’s best players in action, with eight T20 World Cup matches hosted at the venue, beginning with the clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa on 3 June.

The 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup will be the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, a biennial Twenty20 International (T20I) tournament contested by men's national teams and organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

It is scheduled to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States from 2 June to 29 June 2024.

It will be the first ICC World Cup tournament to feature matches played in the United States. England are the defending champions, having defeated Pakistan in the final of the previous edition.

The tournament will be contested by a record 20 teams, an expansion from 16 teams at the 2022 tournament and with 55 matches to be played it will be the biggest cricket tournament that the ICC has ever held.

In addition to the two hosts, the top eight teams from the previous tournament automatically qualified, as did the next two teams in the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings.

The remaining eight teams were decided via a regional qualification process. This is the first time that Canada, Uganda, and the United States have qualified for the T20 World Cup

On 20 September 2023, ICC confirmed three venues in United States which included Lauderhill (Central Broward Park), Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium) and New York (Nassau County Stadium) for the World Cup.

A decision was taken by ICC to build a temporary modular stadium with a capacity of 34,000 at Eisenhower Park of Nassau County in New York and simultaneously increase the capacities by double for the existing stadiums in Fort Lauderdale and Dallas by modular stadium solutions to expand seating, media, and premium hospitality areas.

On 22 September 2023, ICC confirmed seven venues in the Caribbean Islands of Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, St Lucia, St Vincent & The Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago that will host matches. Jamaica, St Kitts & Nevis and Grenada did not submit bids to host the World Cup, with Jamaican sports minister Olivia Grange ruling out a bid on cost grounds.

Unveiling strategy for ICC T20 World Cup 2024: navigating shift in cricket viewership dynamics

April 3, 2024

The game is changing, and so are the rules. As we gear up for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, cricket aficionados aren’t just eyeing the action on the field; they’re also glued to their screens, witnessing a seismic shift in viewership trends. In this dynamic landscape, advertisers need to recalibrate their strategies or risk being sidelined.

The digital surge in cricket viewership

In the ever-evolving world of cricket, 2023 marked a turning point. Digital platforms emerged as the MVPs, attracting approximately 29.5 million unique viewers during the ICC World Cup, stealing the limelight from traditional television. Why the sudden surge? Digital offers flexibility – catch the match on the go, with the added allure of interactive features that enhance the viewing experience. With streaming services upping their ante, the digital revolution in sports broadcasting is unmistakable.

Platform preferences: decoding the divide

Cricket fans don’t all follow the same playbook when it comes to tuning in. Some remain loyal to the traditional TV setup, relishing the larger-than-life experience and the camaraderie it brings. On the flip side, digital-first viewers crave convenience – they want matches at their fingertips, with options for multi-viewing and real-time analysis. This dichotomy underscores the need for advertisers to finesse their approach, catering to the nuances of each audience segment.

Age demographics: TV vs digital

The age-old debate: TV versus digital. While the younger cohort (15-34) gravitates towards digital platforms, TV still commands attention among older demographics. The lineup of preferred channels and apps reflects this diversity, with stalwarts like PTV Sports dominating the TV realm (with a whopping 70%) and digital darlings like Tamasha ruling the roost for free, ad-supported streaming (scoring a staggering 73%) during the ICC World Cup. It’s a game of demographics, and advertisers need to play their cards right.

Reality check: TV vs digital reach

TV may have reigned supreme in the past, but the numbers paint a different picture. Despite its longstanding dominance, TV’s actual reach isn’t leagues ahead of digital platforms. With minimal audience overlap, the scales are tilting in favor of digital – a wake-up call for traditional advertising paradigms.

Strategic allocation of ad spend: balancing the books

Advertising during cricket extravaganzas doesn’t come cheap, especially on TV. However, here’s the plot twist: digital platforms offer competitive reach and targeted advertising at much lower costs. With TV commercials draining advertisers’ coffers, diversification is the name of the game, ensuring maximum impact without breaking the bank.

Crafting the winning formula for ICC T20 World Cup 2024

For brands eyeing victory at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, a winning strategy is non-negotiable. It’s not just about splitting budgets between TV and digital – it’s about crafting content that resonates across both platforms. By dissecting 2023’s viewership data and consumer behavior, advertisers can tailor their game plan to strike gold with their target audience.

Embracing the digital revolution

The digital wave in cricket viewership isn’t a mere ripple – it’s a clarion call for advertisers to adapt or risk obsolescence. As we countdown to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, mastering this new playbook is paramount for brands vying for the spotlight. By harnessing the power of both TV and digital, backed by data-driven insights, advertisers can clinch victory in the game of engagement.

The stage is set, and the stakes are high. Will advertisers rise to the occasion or be left behind in the digital dust?

ICC Men's T20 World Cup format, rules & past winners

A giant white cricket ball with the branding for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in West Indies and USA 2024 on

14 May 2024

It is almost time for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the United States and West Indies.

England head into the tournament as defending champions following their success in Australia in 2022.

However, they find themselves in a wide-open competition, with a record-breaking number of sides set to take part.

Here is a full guide to the ninth edition of the 20-over global showpiece.

Men's T20 World Cup 2024 schedule and start date

The 2024 Men's T20 World Cup starts on 2 June at 01:30 BST with hosts United States facing Canada in Texas.

Games are also taking place in the Caribbean, so there are matches overnight in the UK (00:30 or 01:30) and then the afternoon (15:30, 16:30, 18:00 or 20:00).
The initial 20-team group stage, that sees four groups of five, continues until 18 June with at least one game every day, but often two or three.

The Super 8s follow with two games most days until 25 June, before both semi-finals on 27 June.
The final is on Saturday, 29 June at 15:30 BST in Barbados.

What is the format for the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup?

The 2024 Men's T20 World Cup is the biggest yet with 20 sides taking part and there's a return to an old format.

All of the teams are involved from the off in an initial group stage, with each side playing four games and the top two progressing to the Super 8s.

The Super 8s, which will take place solely in the Caribbean, will consist of two groups of four, with eight sides (India, Pakistan, Australia, England, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa and Sri Lanka) seeded to help with the planning and schedule for that stage.

Should those sides progress they will go into either Group 1 or 2 based on their seeding, rather than their finishing position in the initial group phase.

In the Super 8s, the top two teams progress to the semi-finals with the winner of each group facing the runner-up in the other pool.

Throughout both phases teams are awarded two points for a win, one for a no result and zero for a loss. There's no ties in T20 cricket - more on that below!

Who is competing in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup?

The expanded tournament means that most of the big nations are involved in the tournament.

The only Test-playing nation not to qualify is Zimbabwe, who failed to get through their qualifier tournament.

The 20 sides are split into the following four groups in the initial phase:

Group A: Canada, India (A1), Ireland, Pakistan (A2), USA
Group B: Australia (B2), England (B1), Namibia, Oman, Scotland
Group C: Afghanistan, New Zealand (C1), Papua New Guinea, Uganda, West Indies (C2)
Group D: Bangladesh, Nepal, Netherlands, South Africa (D1), Sri Lanka (D2)

What venues and stadiums are being used in the 2024 T20 World Cup?

The tournament will be cricket's first major global event in the United States, with 16 of the 55 matches taking place there.

Florida (Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium), New York (Nassau County International Cricket Stadium) and Texas (Grand Prairie Stadium) will be the three venues hosting games.

The stadium in New York has been created for the tournament and comprises a pitch flown in from Adelaide, Australia and temporary seating.

In the Caribbean, Antigua & Barbuda (Sir Vivian Richards Stadium), Barbados (Kensington Oval), Guyana (Guyana National Stadium), Saint Lucia (Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium), St. Vincent & the Grenadines (Arnos Vale Playing Field) and Trinidad & Tobago (Brian Lara Cricket Academy) will host games.

What are the rules for the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup?

The tournament is played in a T20 format, so both teams will face 20 overs unless they are bowled out beforehand or the team batting second reaches their target before then.

Each innings will start with a six-over powerplay and there are different fielding restrictions in that phase.

Matches should last three hours and 10 minutes, with each innings allocated one hour and 25 minutes and separated by a 20 minute interval.

The tournament will be the first with the 'stop-clock' meaning the bowling side must be ready to bowl each over within 60 seconds of the previous one finishing.

Each side will be allowed two unsuccessful reviews per innings.

Should the number of runs scored by each team be level after 20 overs, the match will go to a super over (each team will face six balls - highest score wins). If that finishes a tie then super overs will continue to be played until a winner is found.

In the two group phases a minimum of five overs per side must be played to constitute a result, but that rises to 10 overs in the semi-finals and final.

If a match is halted after that point due to weather conditions then DLS (Duckworth Lewis Stern method) will be used to decide the winner.

The first semi-final and final have a reserve day, but the second semi-final will have an additional 250 minutes of time allowed only.

If India reach the semi-finals it has already been decided they will play in the second game.

Who are the previous Men's T20 World Cup winners?

There have been six winners of the eight Men's T20 World Cups. They are:
  • 2007 - India
  • 2009 - Pakistan
  • 2010 - England
  • 2012 - West Indies
  • 2014 - Sri Lanka
  • 2016 - West Indies
  • 2021 - Australia
  • 2022 - England

PCB announces 15-man squad for T20 World Cup

Dawn.com
May 24, 2024

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday announced the 15-member Pakistan squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean.

According to a press release issued by the PCB, Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim — who took back their retirements earlier this year — are part of the squad led by captain Babar Azam.

The side was confirmed today following a two-hour selection committee meeting, which was attended by Abdul Razzaq, Asad Shafiq, Babar, Bilal Afzal, Gary Kirsten, Mohammad Yousuf and Wahab Riaz, the press release said.

It said that Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Saim Ayub and Usman Khan will make their T20 World Cup debut, while Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim last appeared in the 2016 and 2021 tournaments, respectively.

The other eight players participated in the 2022 event in Australia, it said.

“This is an extremely talented and balanced side that has a mixture of youth and experience. These players have been playing together for some time and look well-prepared and settled for next month’s event,” the statement said.

It added that Haris Rauf — who was ruled out of the PSL after dislocating his shoulder — was fully fit and bowling well in the nets.

“It would have been nice if he had gotten an outing at Headingley, but we remain confident that he will continue to maintain an upward trajectory in the upcoming matches, as he will have an important role to play along with other strike bowlers in the T20 World Cup,” the statement said.

Pakistan are currently in England for a four-match T20 series as part of their preparation for the World Cup.

Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (captain), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan

Pakistan’s schedule of matches:

June 6 — vs USA, Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium, Dallas

June 9 — vs India, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

June 11 — vs Canada, Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

June 16 — vs Ireland, Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium, Lauderhill, Florida

Pakistan has been seeded A2 in the first round and if they qualify for the second round, then their Super Eight matches will be as follows:

June 19 — vs D1, Antigua

June 21 — vs C2, Barbados

June 23 — vs B1, Barbados

Didn't even know this was on. The EURO football championships start soon and then the Olympics.
