So last night wife and I were in a busy restaurant; it was fairly loud there but still we could chat. I know a certain Bangladeshi guy through a mutual friend for last few years. We met each other last night after a year's gap. Here went the conversation:
He: I hear military deployed in Islamabad for some reasons.
Me: It is storm in a tea cup. Happening for years. Nothing is going to come out of it.
Me: Basically, the expats in Western countries have propped up Imran Khan to new heights but the guy became so unpopular by the time he was ousted that despite warnings, he dared not dissolved the Assemblies and called for early elections, which would be his constitutional right. He could not even face a simple Parliamentary No Confidence Motion.
He: Oh, I didn't about that about him.
Me: Yes, the expats are very loud and mislead the world.
Me: I support the Pakistani Military because it is the last bastion of stability.
He: Well, my father and others were patriotic Pakistanis but your military slaughtered us in 1971.
Me: We should not have even have been one country. There is no 'B' in 'Pakistan'. But I wish you guys the best from a distance!
He: Continued his story of how loyal the East Pakistanis were, including someone shooting down six Indian planes (MM Alam came to my mind. But I didn't want the conversation to go on. I actually wanted to remind him how the East Pakistanis hunted down loyal Pakistani civilians)
He: The only reason Pakistan has not faced genocide is because of rich Arab nations and the Americans. (I just said again: We were not supposed to be together. I wish you guys the best from a distance!)
He moved away and realized I was getting irritated. But came back to me.
Me: The Pakistani military is what saves Pakistan from a rich powerful enemy in India. The Indians have desired even beyond Kashmir because their Defense Minister has even mentioned Pakistan's Sindh Province as a possible territory to acquire.
He: Well, I differ: India is not 'powerful', it is a 'Paper Tiger'.
Me: Yes, Pakistan proved itself in May 2025. (He smiled agreeing).
Me: What do the Bangladeshi people say about the recent events (post Hasina)?
He: The economy is getting worse and worse and people will rise.
Me: Happens a lot people wanting 'revolutions', only to see even worse situations.
Me: Is Hasina really going back to BD?
He: Yes, it in her character to defy the authorities.
Me: She is not likely to face very good fate.
He: But is in her character. Brave lady.
Me: What do you think about India?
He: No issues if they stop shooting us at the border crossings.
Me: Yes, shooting illegal crossing border is very cruel. Americans don't do that to the Mexicans.
