Its era is already counting down.

Next come moderate design refinements and mass production.

But, developing new variants? That makes little sense.

A more rational approach is to focus more energy on 6th-generation—or even 7th-generation—fighter jets.

Of course, this is purely my own speculation.

Actually I don’t think so. IMO the J-20A and especially the S or AS will be built for about 2-3 more years so that about 800+ J-20 can be expected to be in service until late 2028/early 2029 and then priorities in production will shift towards J-36 & J-XDS production.

I agree with @Michael and do not expect a new variant.
More likely those J-20A currently using the WS-10C2 will be upgraded to WS-15.

The J-20 should be compared more closely with the F-22 in terms of size and weight class. The F-35 is a lighter, medium-weight fighter and is therefore more comparable to China’s J-35.

I believe China will likely continue producing the J-20 family into the 2040s, although production could gradually decline as sixth-generation aircraft enter service. There is also a possibility that China could introduce a further J-20 variant potentially designated J-20B or J-20C within the next three to five years.

Is it now? Does the J-20 have offensive EW capability? Does it have offensive electronic virus capability? Does it have EODAS giving it 360 spherical degree tracking capabilities sensor fusing all that info into the helmet? No?

J-20 is not even in the same league as the F-35 the same goes for their J-35's.
