This is a sad state of affairs for our women. This goes to show how behind Pakistani women are in all walks of life. Even in South Asia, our women are dead last in any form of sport. The men's sport is in a rough place, but women's is in a dismal place.

Lack of mobility, opportunities, repressive culture, male chauvinism, all these things exacerbate the problems. I don't think it would be unfair for me to say that our women are probably the most disadvantaged group of females in the entire world (and countless studies show this). There are absolute examples of brilliance among them when given the opportunity, but our rural, backwards culture inhibits their ability to flourish on the world stage.

Outside of Pakistan, these very same women have excelled in every walk of life, but unfortunately our own country sets them back the most.

Backward Pakistani mullah and Pakistani males scared of questioning those mullahs is the very reason we look down upon women who want to play and enjoy sports.

Our children are not properly taught about Mother Khadeeja, warrior women companions of Rehmat ul lil Alimeen, role of Muslim women in the battle of Yarmouk and many others ... all we only know and discuss is what could be the proper hijab.

It is quite possible officials simply picked girls out of school hockey teams and sent them abroad for this tournament. Their parents may be connected people who tagged along with the officials and players for a nice fully paid tourist visit abroad.

Excelled in sports??? Garbage.

Name me ONE SINGLE PAKISTANI DIASPORA sportswoman of any remote significance (there's a bowler for Scotland I believe but ..come on...anyone significant like Isa Guha for example?). Indian sportswomen, although some of them clearly have an extra Y chromosome or two, are, admittedly, better than Pakistani sportswomen. We just never bothered emphasising sports to our females, both at home AND in diaspora communities.

It has never been considered to be important, which I agree with personally.

What changed is that Pakistan seems determined to declare victory regardless of the scoreboard, whether it’s Operation Sindoor or cricket. So perhaps Indian fans now want the margins to be so overwhelming that even Pakistan’s propaganda machine runs out of numbers to invent.

Ma nigga.... we don't care who beats us at what sport as long as it is played in the spirit of sportsmanship and gentility. I too used to enjoy Ind-Pak contests for what they were.

But alas, you cannot separate war from sport. So be it. I'd happily lose every sports fixture on every pitch as long as we consistently down your jets and slaughter or capture anyone who steps across the border.

They don't invest in their people. The Pakistani state and its defenders offer little value. In Pakistan, there is no concept of human resources. People are treated as a burden.

How can a population prosper when the state fails to invest in basic well being, education and healthcare? The primary reason so many Pakistanis seek to emigrate is simple, a total lack of opportunity.

National achievements like sports mean little when individuals lack the basic means to sustain themselves.
