Venezuelan crude is actually very hard to refine. It’s extremely heavy and high in sulfur. Only a few countries have refineries complex enough to handle it properly at large scale. India is one of them mainly because refineries like Jamnagar and Vadinar were designed to process heavy sour crude efficiently.

We need sulphur anyway. Industries run on sulphuric acid like there is no tomorrow. so much that China has put up ban on sulphuric acid export.
