That’s actually why MPMS and ISM 2.0 were brought in. The first phase was about getting factories, scale and supply chains here. The next phase is about owning the IP, doing the R&D here and building Indian brands. MPMS literally gives extra incentives for Indian owned design/R&D and patents. The brand, design and IP have to be genuinely Indian owned.

India’s manufacturing capabilities can match China’s if India starts investing heavily in military research and development. A strong military-industrial complex often creates technological spin-offs that drive the civilian sector as well. For example, missile and rocket technology contribute to space programs, advances in tank engines benefit the automotive industry, and fighter-jet engine technology contribute to civilian aviation. Even the foundation of the modern internet originated from U.S. military-funded research. Technologies such as solar panels were also significantly advanced through their use in space satellites and military applications. The list goes on—investment in military R&D can create a much broader technological ecosystem that strengthens civilian manufacturing and innovation.
