I remember, they strung along all the major manufacturers for almost 20 years, and then eventually ordered around a dozen Rafales...which are now heavily depleated. They have no choice but to but Rafales now.

Oh yeah, Boeing, LMTAS, SAAB where all sending fighters over for the show, renaming planes like F-16 = F-21, promising ToT, export rights for Indian made planes etc

Indians kept "clearing" MRCA and "on verge of announcing winner".

In the end bought the same number of planes as Qatar.

Same show is being played out now, this time round French have wised up, not agreeing to any Indian terms and just giving a "take it or leave it" offer.

No ToT and possibly no Indian production line.

HAL Tejas is in a similar category to the JF-17. If the JF-17 isn't compared with the J-10 or J-20, then similarly, HAL Tejas can't be compared with them either.

HAL Tejas will have only a specific role – point defence.

Well, Mig 17.19 and 21 are also proven and tested but can't fight 5th gen fighters... I said based on both being similar categories and technology.
