India foreign policy thread

ANI being biased toward the BJP is a fairly well known criticism, but that is not what is being debated here. The focus of this thread is the clip itself. If you distrust ANI, feel free to verify the statement through any other source you consider credible. The burden of doing so is on you.

My comment was solely about highlighting the double standards that often characterize American foreign policy and why it is never wise to take Washington's rhetoric at face value. Trump's sweet words today can very easily turn into punitive measures tomorrow. History is filled with examples of the United States shifting its position when its strategic interests change.

I also fail to see where I was supposedly gloating about a "strong Indo-American partnership." The BJP and Modi have received plenty of criticism, both domestically and internationally. My point was much narrower that is shadow fleets operate in a legally grey area, while the United States continues to view itself as the enforcer of the international order. This is an entirely different debate.

That said, we live in a world where power often shapes outcomes. India is no exception to this reality. Like any major state pursuing its interests, it should and likely already does seek exemptions, accommodations, or alternative mechanisms to protect critical economic and strategic interests, including those connected to its shipping and energy security.

Enough said on this

Another strategic failure for India after its failure with their marriage to Israel. India kicked out of security framework for Pacific. Seems like no one wants to be friends with Modi … India no longer useful to the Americans…..

Pakistan has a role in the Middle East as a net security Provider now and has pushed India out of the security framework for the Middle East very successfully …

Why next for shining supa power India?

( oh dear … ).

Any update on the situation with Indian sailors being killed by U.S missiles?

I've seen some Indian news anchors/defense analysts (not sure what you guys would call them) victim blaming the sailors, so it's kind of up in the air on what the stance is by most of the hardliners in India - firm and angry at the U.S or more so of a "well what did you expect to happen?" type view.

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi
India is going to resume issuing tourist visas for Bangladeshi citizens, nearly two years after suspension following the political changeover in Bangladesh in 2024.

Dinesh Trivedi, the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, announced the decision at the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) at Jamuna Future Park today.

"I am very happy to be able to announce the launch of general travel visas again. Visa applications can be submitted starting June 28. Urgent medical visas will continue to be provided for humanitarian reasons," he told journalists.

Visas will initially be issued through five centres -- Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet and Khulna -- with operations expected to expand further in the future.

Bangladesh urged India to normalise visa issuance

"We hope that this will further strengthen the people-to-people ties between our two sovereign nations," Trivedi said.

According to a statement from the Indian High Commission, security concerns following the events of August 5, 2024, forced Indian missions in Bangladesh to scale down visa operations. The statement said the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in Dhanmondi was ransacked and set on fire, five IVACs came under attack, and Indian personnel working on development projects faced threats.

Despite the security challenges, India continued operating visa centres in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Sylhet and Rajshahi to meet humanitarian needs, particularly for patients seeking medical treatment, it said. India has been issuing more than 1,500 visas daily across all categories except tourist visas, it added.

Trivedi, who arrived in Dhaka on June 12, presented his credentials to President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban earlier today before making the announcement.

The resumption of tourist visas marks another step in the gradual normalisation of relations between Dhaka and New Delhi, which became strained after the fall of the Awami League government. Both countries imposed restrictions on trade and visa services during the period of tension.

Relations have improved in recent months. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Dhaka on December 31, while Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi later congratulated Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman following the formation of the new government. Bangladesh missions in India subsequently resumed issuing all categories of visas to Indian citizens.

Credit to both India's Ministry of External Affairs and also to the Bangladeshi foreign ministry on working to improve Bangladesh-India relations.

Our relations with India are important to us Bangladeshis. As most members of this sub-forum know there is very vocal but small minority in Bangladesh who have a deep irrational hatred of India. These India-haters are obsessed with India and even if India gave Bangladesh $100 trillion and made it x10 wealthier than Switzerland they would still hate it and look for false "reasons" to promote India-hatred. However I think India's MEA is more prudent and far-sighted and is displaying maturity, which should definitely be appreciated and respected.

Very very bad news
It's good news.

The situation between Bangladesh and India is nothing like how the propagandists on this forum try to make it look or social media in general. Both governments have adults running things and not keyboard warrior. India is a value and respected neighbour and ally.

Btw according to the trolls on this forum the Bangladeshi government and ruling party are run by/infilitrated by RAW agents....lol. In other words they dislike the current Bangladeshi government and its policy of maintaining good relations with India.

Now the above tweet where the ruling party in Bangladesh expresses condolences over the death of Indian citizens is something that shouldn't even be happening if we were to go by the extreme, racist, anti-Indian, India-hating Jamaati trolls on this forum but yes the BNP in Bangladesh is basically pro-India (just not keen on being a slave of India but good friends, allies and partners).

Mizanur Rahman Minu has a long history of being fiercely anti-Awami League so respect for India is not just among Awami leaguers but even enemies of the Awami league like nationalist and patriot Mizanur Rahman Minu a BNP leader and minister of the Bangladeshi government.

India will make some noise, for domestic consumption, but in the end, it will do nothing. These sailors were working on a boat in a shadow fleet smuggling Iranian oil.

The sailors knew what they were risking by working on such a ship. For higher pay, they chose to be criminals. How can India tolerate this and purport to be supporters of international law? It would look hypocritical, and they know it.
