India Foreign Policy Thread

You have more visible evidence of the last few hundred years.

History is not linear, what can happen in 100 years can supersede 1000 years.
Sure..We shall India "former colony of England" and Pakistan should be named "Former Sikh and English stan"? Ranjit Singh was last ruler of Pakistan before English ruled entire India.

nah, you are too selective. You ignore what you don't want to acknowledge.

Colonies nothing to do with it. neither are joke names.

The point is what persists in people's hearts and minds along with what we can see, you give your view.

Bangladesh and Pakistan represent a metaphysical and spiritual break from the past you yearn for. Things change, permanently.

Good question. Why do you think the Indians are trying to erase all evidence that there was ever a Muslim rule in India? They are trying to rewrite the history.
The argument never holds ground when we apply that to the British Empire. India was part of the British Empire for 200 years, which is acceptable. India being part of Islamic empires 1000 years is not acceptable. :p Hypocritical Indian logic.
I think the logic is since British defeated the Muslims and conquered them, they get to name them, be it Indian, Bharati or Hindustani and Muslims as defeated party must not get the spoils.
Why a nation of mostly non-muslims was not named "mughalian" when it's history is older than many faiths and these "mughals" were just a blip on that timeline and were destroyed before British even took over? Sorry, I inserted myself into a weird discussion.
Yes absolutely, the Mughal rule is considered most prosperous for the masses and should be treated as a blip.

The Eastern Corridor of the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC) achieved a significant milestone on 8 November 2025, when a cargo train originating north of Moscow arrived in Iran, carrying 62 40-foot containers through Central Asia. The 900-km journey to the Aprin dry port in Tehran took 12 days, crossing Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan before entering Iran at Incheh Borun.

Since March 2025, New Delhi has been using the same route to send cargo from the Mundra Port in Gujarat to Central Asia via Iran’s Bandar Abbas port. For India, the INSTC’s Eastern Corridor not only provides an alternative to the Suez Canal but is also vital to fulfilling India’s goal of achieving US$2 trillion in exports by 2030. Additionally, given Beijing’s export restrictions on specific rare earth minerals, the Eastern Corridor presents India with a significant opportunity to tap into the export potential of Central Asian markets and reduce its dependence on China for critical minerals by utilising the large reserves in Central Asian nations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin arrive at 7 LKM, the official residence of PM Modi, in New Delhi on Thursday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India on Thursday (December 4, 2025) on a 2-day visit, beginning his first engagement with a private dinner with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter’s official residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg.

Mr. Modi, in a special gesture, welcomed Mr. Putin upon his arrival at the Air Force Station Palam on Thursday evening.

This is Mr. Putin’s first state visit to India since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, which is currently drawing global attention because of renewed peace efforts involving U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Russian leader will receive a ceremonial reception at the forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan at 11 a.m., which will be followed by a visit to Rajghat, where he will lay a wreath at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.

The 23rd India-Russia annual summit will commence at 11:50 a.m. at the Hyderabad House, to be followed by press statements by Mr. Modi and Mr. Putin.

Trump Sanctions: India’s Crude Imports From Russia At 5-Month High - Can It Continue?

Donald Trump’s sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil - two of Russia’s major crude firms - may result in India’s imports of oil from Moscow dropping - but will this shift be permanent? Analysts expect India to continue procuring Russian crude through non-sanctioned entities and even indirect and less transparent routes. In fact, Russian grade imports to India in November are set to reach a five-month peak, primarily due to increased purchases before the 21 November sanctions deadline.

I am glad India is doing this. The Western allies are watching this with full disgust.
Umm who though? They have been watching since the war started in 2022 and still bought the refined Russian oil from India. They were indirectly profiting the war effort of Russia lol.

I wonder why the EU is signing a trade deal with us then. It's like they know Indian interests diverge from their interests.

If the Russo-Ukrainian war ends and the sanction ends, what after that? The Russian oil won't be sanctioned then. America - Indian trade talks are already in process.

And it's not like we aren't making military deals with the Americans.

They can watch with all the 'disgust' they want 😂 They’ll still end up signing trade deals, giving us visas, selling us weapons, and having their companies set up shop in India. We’ll keep doing what’s best for us, just like they deal with us based on their own self interest.
