India to export Akash air defence system to Armenia in $720 million deal

All this is pointless if their military is not trained enough.
Armenians are skilled fighters and brave soldiers, but like @Waz said, they have a very small population in a tiny country and little money to spend on defence. That was one of their problems from the beginning.

Then came the Pashinyan government which was full of incompetent and traitorous people and there you go...

Don't know if they are brave but they are definitely not skilled. I mean not only they were outgunned in Karabakh conflict but they were outmaneuvered and outsmarted by AZ forces. Structurally and doctrinally their armed forces are outdated.

I don't know if you were here before the forum closed. I had posted in various threads the reason they lost.

Like you mentioned they were outgunned, they always were. And they had very old equipment. However, half the reason they lost the war was because they were sold out by Pashinyan.

Specifically, the Artsakh soldiers were often denied reinforcements, some units were getting orders to retreat or not go somewhere without explanation. Equipment needed would not arrive sometimes etc.

And they still, even outnumbered and outgunned caused significant losses to the Azeris, even if they were being pounded by UAVs and artillery.

Waste of money for Armenia, they got defeated and subjugated. Their military adventures are over but cool if this system will give them some sense of security which they basically do not have.
720 mils for a sense of security? More like a deposit to make another raucous adventure in the near future. What naturally comes next for Armenia is a KO by Az.

There is zero possibility the armenians will not be 100% satisfied with Akash, for the simple reason that Indian Army and Airforce put the developent team through almighty hell and screwed them hard for even small under-delieveries.

Best thing was that they refused to accept it even if tracked perforamce didn't come up to scratch. Right now there are few systems that have hardened tracked versions that can operate in mountains and deserts.

Armenia's problem right now is not about Akash, they're missing many other modern systems and a competent government. And most of all,the money to modernize their army in order to defend against further Azeri aggression. For example, there's still Azeri units occupying parts of Armenia proper.

Akash is an indication of 'optimum modernization', excellent hardened system that's proven itself with decades of service and testing. Enough to fry anything that Azerbaijan will throw at them.

Yes,but it's still not enough. Even if it was the best AA system in the world.

They're not fighting F 35s here. Azerbaijan is barely an airforce,
They don't only need AA systems! They need new artillery, new vehicles, they need new radars,EW systems, they need new armored vehicles, modern AT weapons, they need UAVs.

Honestly Speaking Akash is only useful against Azeri UCAVs, Helicopters, and LiFT aircrafts, it does not have TBM capability so it can not shoot down Air Launched Munitions, or Missiles.

Yes Akash is not the most technologically advanced system but it is leagues better than literally everything except S300 and Tor M2 of Armenian Armed Forces and it is the cheapest (arguably Modern) SAM system money can buy, it is a perfect replacement for Armenia's Ancient meduim and short range Air Defence Systems

Can not comment on other things you mentioned but in case of Artillery India is completly overhauling and modernizing Armenian Artillery from Head to Toe, they don't need to look elsewhere.
Garuda 105 (on offer)- Extremely Mobile, Truck Mounted Light Artillery (105mm 37 cal)
MaRG (ordered) - Extremely Mobile, Truck Mounted Meduim Range Artillery (155mm 39 cal)

Yes,I've seen it. That's what I'm saying, they need a lot of new equipment.

I'm pretty sure they're not buying Akash for UAVs, that's an uncredibly silly idea. I think they expect some kind of fixed wing or helo support for securing military gains and the Akash will be used to target those. For UAV, they'll be looking at somethig else.
