Ok then, here we go again. A thread to showcase India to anyone who may be interested in traveling here. I'll be posting pics, videos (both in English as well as in Hindi) and articles from a variety of sources. The idea is to showcase all of India, the good and the bad, the 'string budget' stuff, the luxury leisure stuff, and everything in between.

The islands and atolls of Lakshadweep. The name literally translates to '100000 (laksha) islands (dweep)'

other Indian destinations coming up in subsequent posts.

@Paitoo @vsdoc @Joe Shearer @Guru Dutt @Nilgiri et al .. please feel free to post pics and reviews of Indian destinations you favor, add a few pics of your own travels and share tips on how to go about planning a trip and so on.

Key thing from my perspective as a frequent business traveller and weekend tourist:

1. Super efficient and polite immigration officials - first impression is important. I once had to extend my stay and ended up with an expired passport. The immigration official just smiled and waived me through. At Dhaka airport they beat you to death!

2. Absolutely stunning hotels with efficient and friendly staff. Hotel cars are expensive but it’s worth it for the knowledgeable drivers you get.

3. There’s so many things to see and taste - you will never tire of it.

Ofcourse, do remember you are in a developing country so take the usual precautions.

I love the people, food and scenery.

Can see why Hasina has made it her second home.

Beats the absolute dump that is Dhaka!
