India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

@Vkdindian1

So we were proved wrong that we would be able to sew up a deal by end November. And @Yasser76 bro was proved wrong that Indian economy would collapse without a deal.

We are fair and square.

Please rise above this typical squint eye view and see the bigger picture.
If India was really under any pressure, shouldn’t it have signed the deal as asked by Trump? Didn’t Trump say in Nov that India is trying to please him by agreeing to the deal?

Infact India has held off all the pressure and seems to be toying with Trump and his henchmen that many people keep quoting. Have you heard any word from Navarro off late? He used to dish a daily social media triad against Modi. What happened to him?

It is not a bad idea to appreciate a good move even by an adversary. India holding off Trump administration over Trade Deal is nothing less than stellar.
Fair points to be honest. Let us see what transpires of this supa pawa play.

@Vkdindian1

It is not a bad idea to appreciate a good move even by an adversary.

It requires a certain level of intellect to do that. There is nothing in the writings of @Master Chief, my dear distant cousin from the western river valleys, to suggest that he possesses that.

Yes, indeed, this all seems to be the case. Then again, perhaps this is the precise and very basic level of chanakiya that is required for dealing with gangetic basin dwellers.

Who knows?

chanakiya
When people talk about India, they quote Chanakya. China is always clubbed with Sun Tzu. Many other nations are clubbed in a similar fashion and assumed to follow the philosophy of these great thinkers and strategists born on their soil.

This was fine till 100 years back when these teachings were restricted to a certain region. Not anymore.

There are more books analysing the work of these greats all over the world than their own work in their original countries. There is nothing hidden anymore.

What Sun Tzu said is well known to US and India as much as to China. No one has stopped anyone from following anyone and neither can one link the strategic thinking of a nation to any one person. So Sun Tzu and Chanakya have a global reach and a mix and match of their work must be followed by many nations.

At this time Indo-US relations seem to be at a low. Indian government could have done better in this regard. Chanakya or no Chanakya.

What they have done very well, is to not capitulate under pressure. I am sure that Trump and his team didn’t see that coming. The way EU and many other powerful nations buckled was surprising. Infact the higher tariffs have forced Indian traders to learn not keep all the eggs in one basket and be a little diversified. That seems to be already showing good results in many sectors.

Moreover, there has been announcements of record FDI coming to India from US. The additional 25% hasn’t turned out as disastrous as envisioned by many.

These tariffs were a great opportunity for Pakistan to replace India in many fields. Has that happened? Pakistani friends may be able to throw some light on this. And no jingoism please. Just the facts.

Every other day Trump makes a flame bait announcement about Modi. Modi hasn’t fallen into that trap and stayed rooted. Many people call this a weakness. It is not. It is being dignified and measured against a powerful and temperamental world leader. Modi is doing the do and not talking.

I would wait for the Trade Deal to happen and then assess how Modi did. As of now, he seems to be doing OK.

Add Machiavelli to the list for Europeans!

Please note though that the most erudite philosopher-poet in question was actually a citizen of ancient Pakistani birthright (Taxila), not Indian.

Indians worshipped Trump which was horrible but he slapped tariff on them. So they stopped worshipping him which is horrible too since worshipping is a must.
Tariffs were meant to end Indian economy which didn't happen. This has brought lot of shame to India.
Unlike all the neighbors of India and many other countries, India refuses to show spine and is constantly appeasing Trump, by not agreeing to a deal which favors America. What a weak nation. If only it had spine?
And what's with these promises of deals? India knows that it is nothing without daddy America. Why no deal yet? It's finished otherwise.

My thoughts on this..

The Indians have been mostly clueless throughout their history.

They live in a make believe world and claim others' heritage as theirs.

Another nothingburger doing performative bill introduction.

Tell me, what does a "Nothing burger" taste like? Am interested to know

"Graham’s Sanctioning Russia Act, drafted with Democrat Richard Blumenthal, would give Trump the authority to impose a tariff of up to 500 percent on imports from countries doing business with Russia’s energy sector."
