India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

@hydrabadi_arab

Hydra bro,

Humbly request you to read my post at 1005 PM. I am reproducing the gist of it below:

On the agricultural side, Greer said tariffs on a vast array of goods will also go to zero, while acknowledging that India — like every country in the world, including the United States — will retain protections in certain key areas.

“They’ll continue to control that, and we will continue to work on access. But for a variety of things — tree nuts, wine, spirits, fruits and vegetables — they’re going down to zero. This is a big win,”

Significantly no mention of cereals, dairy products, oilseeds etc

Regards

Hydra bro,

Meanwhile the INR has gained about 2% in the last couple of days- from Rs. 92 to the dollar to 90.4. So our GDP is up by 2%. Heartfelt commiserations.

Are you saying that Indians just got richer by 2%? Totally makes sense.

There was a considerable lament when the INR crossed the =90 mark just three weeks back.
So what's changed? Will it be back to 85.75 as it was at the beginning of 2025 ?

The Super Powers, by definition, have all the time and wealth on their sides. So, the folks ultimately have to return to them. The longer the pause before return, the higher the compensation to pay. The calculus is dead precise....

JUST IN | Trade deal to allow Indian markets to be flooded by highly subsidised US agricultural products will devastate crores of small and middle farmers’ households in India. Narendra Modi government succumbed to US imperialism, says Samyukt Kisan Morcha in a statement, @jigeesham reports.

I don't like India as a Pakistani, but I say this from the bottom of my heart with negative 2000 malicious intent.
If true than this is nothing short of a catastrophe for the vast majority of Indians, as American food is dirt cheap and unfit for human consumption.
Protect the farmer and, most importantly, protect your everyday people from this corporate slop.
This is seriously bad for every section of Indian society.

Fox News is a neo-con outlet, of course, they are going to frame this deal as anti-Russian, even though India and Russia have signed billions in deals, from military equipment to nuclear reactors that are still on the books.

Besides, India doesn't need to buy cheap Russian oil when oil is cheap everywhere. Russia knows its situation and should correct it, but India will act accordingly.

somehow I doubt if this will affect Russia much.
Russia doesn't give a shit anyway

Its the americans who're more worried about their trillions of debt and gutter economy and the decline of the empire.

this is just a bucket in the ocean, and even in that, benefit to USA

Massive surrender to Trump

The US-Indian trade deal is a total Modi capitulation.

I see some indians celebrating the trade deal, because India gets 18% tariff, lower than countries they see as competitors.

But the problem is, Modi got the 18% by promising to have 0% tariff on major import items from the US, like agriculture products, energy and manufactured goods.

Modi also threw Russia under the bus by promising not to buy Russian oil.

So all US had to do for total India to surrender was to impose high tariffs, then drop the newly imposed tariff. In return, India changes their decade long trade policies.😂

This is the true nature of indians, they can spin any defeat into a victory on social media and on the news.

Suburbs around Bangalore used to be nice and probably still are. Whitefield used to be a charming village. A little rural...but still exquisite. ..
Off topic:
Someone needs to start a thread on this forum where we can exchange information on non-political non-defense subjects, that pertain to our daily lives, culture, food habits etc. ; a kind of primitive "people to people" contact. The Americans British, French and Russians (Soviet Union) at the height of the Cold War would discuss music, ballet, art, literature,Sports and travel; even as thousands of nuclear warheads were pointed at each other's cities. I would love to tell Indians where Kumrat valley is.

We end up making off topic posts and getting our knuckles rapped by the mods,

I don't know if you are pulling my leg but Whitefield is no longer anything close to a village

@vasanthm Garu,

I guess last time when @Baibers_1260 visited BLR, PAKs GDP per capita was higher than IND.

I liked it better back then. It was closer to what Kenneth Anderson described in his anecdotes.
I guess Jalahalli, Baglur, and Banaghatta have become concrete jungles as well.
India is bursting at the seams..

I prefer my retreat at Kumrat Valley and my school friends cottage in Kaghan Bangalore has gone the way of all good things. For me my home town of Mansehra, A short drive to paradise on earth.
