India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

There is no additional 10 % due to BRICS membership.

Getting additional 40 % tarrift due to China supply chain ? Does she has enough critical thinking ? How on earth there is a deal like that as Indonesia prevously get 32 % tarriff ?

It was more of a threat pending (the 10%), we will have to wait and see.

Regd why regd the "transhippment tariffs" for Chinese goods to not bypass via other countries:

The (originally stated in Vietnam deal) transshipment condition is blanket policy:

"Goods deemed to have been transshipped to avoid higher duties elsewhere, however, will be tariffed at 40 percent, a US official told reporters Tuesday."

"Santoso emphasized that transshipment is not an acceptable trade practice and was one of the key issues addressed in the tariff negotiations with the US.

He warned that, as in Vietnam's case, goods transshipped from Indonesia could be subject to double tariffs.

"For example, if Vietnam's tariff is 20 percent, then goods transshipped from Vietnam via Indonesia may face a 40-percent tariff," he explained."

(So US would do same thing for PRC goods transshipped via any country in the end as well, this can be googled more, there are lot of articles about it).

I recently read the news that European Union and USA have banned 400 Indian export products especially food products/spices and agricultural products which includes various kind of toxins/poisons and dangerous chemicals for human health

Based on what we are seeing, 10 % tarrif already imposed since April doesnt make US inflation skyrocketing and US consumer down. So this deal with major US trade partners more likely continue. Additional tarrift to major partner arent likely effect US too negatively while US gov can get more money to fill their state budget deficit

China also still can grow at 4.8 % based on IMF latest projection days ago. China growth is important for SEA countries, particularly Indonesia that export its most goods to China.

What kind of tariffs are these, and now he says we'll know in a week about actual tariffs.

I am pretty sure that India would have seen this coming. Even with this 25% tariff, India is still not ready to sign the trade pact. There must be something that is preventing India from signing the trade pact but accept the tariff of 25%. It must have been assessed that it is better to take on this onslaught than to accept the terms being offered for the trade pact.

This is also a good mirror time for those who claimed that Trump is dictating things to India.

Or maybe the trump is simply pissed off at Modi's refusal to trump's invitation for no good reason (major diplomatic blunder) and not acknowledging his role in the ceasefire.

Modi knew the sort of political backlash he was going to face by agreeing to meeting trump and admitting to trump's claims about ceasefire. Validating opposition's onslaught of "taking foreign dictations".

That being said, everyone can see, the US was totally into this conflict and making efforts to stop the conflict.

Or it may just be a trade agreement deadlock.

Or may be a combination of both. Which i believe to be most probable.

Lmao, Pakistanis out here having wet dreams over Trump’s mood swings with India. You really think some rumoured oil find is going to make you relevant? 😂 Meanwhile, Trump’s just using that as a bargaining chip with India, and clearly, we’re not playing along, hence the tantrum.

Also, the so called "tariff" doesn't even touch India’s IT or even the electronics exports (which got exemptions). So what’s getting hit? Turmeric and mangoes? Oh no, how will we ever survive.

Indian foreign policy in a nutshell......not a single country acknowledged their operation bhindoor and now this...........for a paper superpower, this is too much.

I mean, i haven't laughed this much at the sheer stupidity. But i guess this what you get when you have a fascist hindu government.

From Trump saying 5 aircraft shotdown to 25% tarrifs on India and not a single mention of Pakistan or terrorism, I mean, LOL
