India - US Tariff and Relations | News + Updates

Frankly, you didn’t give an answer—you dodged it. My question remains unanswered!

India isn’t doing anything new; it has been following a similar foreign policy for decades, right from Nehru’s time.

And I’m sure you also understand how the U.S. operates. I don’t think this drama will last very long. Maybe in a week or month, or 6 months you’ll hear that there’s a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, with Trump announcing it… and the whole situation will completely change.

So, don’t worry about India. What matters most right now is that India must not bend. Because once you bend, it sets an expectation that you will bend again in the future
I answered. I said we will eat the sanctions as we have in the past because US-Pakistan will never be fully converged. That tells you what and who Pakistan will pick.

What hardball? Let's not joke by putting India in the same league as China or even Russia. It simply isn't true and you know it too, your bravado aside.
Yes, they are in the same league in terms of having leverage against Trump. Normally , you would not think of the Pakistani government being in the same league as the EU or Japan , either, but in this case, they all had weak hands. The EU and Japan have a security dependence on the US and Asim Muneer depends on Trump to protect him from the Pakistan Democracy Act and Congressional sanctions.

You are the one who made comments about how I think and feel. Follow your own advice and stick to the topic instead of conjecturing about how I feel.
Last, Insecurities? Us Pakistanis? Indians are like a bunch of jilted lovers. Everything was America sir, America yes sir....and now suddenly the world is upside down so this whole sour grapes tamasha.

The decision-making elite in India is not sentimental. They make decisions in the national interest and will engage whichever country or bloc that will serve it, be it the US, Russia. China, EU, Japan, Israel , GCC, Quad, BRICS, SCO etc.

India has never fully in the American camp. The relationship has been beneficial for India but that didn't stop us from having a close relationship with Russia , a friendly one with Iran and a businesslike one with China.

As a dispassionate observer , I understand that India is not the only country in the Trump admin's crosshairs. They have coerced humiliating one-sided deals from even their closest allies and treaty partners. If you apply your brain a little , you will realise that the deal Pakistan has signed on to is extremely one-sided as well. The "tamasha" as you put it, is happening only because India has refused to sign the same deal and refused to cut ties with Russia. If Modi agreed to surrender like the Field Marshall did, he would be Trump's best friend again and he might even truth about India selling oil to Russia from her "massive " reserves one day.

By the way, your perception of the world turning "upside down" is unlikely to last more than a few months . Trump wants a deal he can sell to his base as a win and the world's most populous country is a big prize for American exporters, especially farmers. Both sides are playing hardball to secure the most favourable terms, but a deal is in the interest of both parties and, therefore, likely to happen despite all the theatre going on.

Trump has bust his own balls. He turned the largest market in the world into a hostile environment. The Chinese must be licking their fingers. If the Indian PM shows Trump the middle finger, good for him. It is time that the USA learned that it cannot bully nations into economic subservience.

Widespread outrage over Indian envoys provocative comments on Russian oil imports

Indian companies will continue sourcing oil from wherever they receive the “best deal,” India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, stated in an interview with Russian state-run agency TASS.

In the interaction, Kumar said that India’s energy decisions are guided by its national interest and the need to ensure energy security for its 1.4 billion citizens.

His remarks came amid mounting criticism from the United States over India’s ongoing purchase of discounted Russian crude oil, criticism that New Delhi has repeatedly pushed back against. “Indian companies will continue buying from wherever they get the best deal. Our objective is the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India,” he added.

“India will continue to take steps that protect its national interest.” The Trump administration recently announced a sharp increase in tariffs on Indian goods, raising them to 50% overall, with a 25% hike specifically targeting India’s continued imports of Russian oil.

Many netizens on social media have now come up with a fresh argument that if India continues to buy Russian oil, the H-1B programme should be scrapped. According to US government data, 191,000 H-1B visas were issued to Indian professionals during the fiscal year 2023. In FY 2024, that figure increased to roughly 207,000. Given that Indian nationals regularly obtain over 70% of these visas, mostly for software, IT consulting, and engineering positions, the programme is especially important for India’s tech workforce.

A user wrote on TeamBlind, “100 random H1bs revoked every day that they buy Russian oil.” Another noted, “I honestly believe the geo-politics tension btw US-India is going to be superr bad for H1Bs.” “I like how India is openly disrespecting the Orange Clown. Started buying more Russian oil and called the orange clown a liar over the ceasefire claim. All those while H1-Bs are earning millions in the USA and MAGA idiots are being fired by the orange clown from their govt jobs. Love the circus!!,” wrote a netizen.

“Time for a 100% remittance tax and to end all H1B visas,” claimed another. “Cool let’s investigate all their H1-B applications then,” added a user.

Regards

I have different opinion - I just want, India to wait and watch for sometimes. No need to react aggressively.

But definitely, no need to accept USA demands and bend, just go thru by eating these traffics

US is rebalancing the books in south asia.

Their Indian tilt nearly triggered a nuclear war and created a beligerent India that thinks it can bully its neighbors by blocking their water.

Now Pakistan and Bangladesh will get a fair slice of the pie and rightfully so and lets see how India performs when the odds aren't manipulated in their favour.

So are we calling this leverage?

Should call back all 207000 H1B professionals and then see who blinks first.

Lol. There is no share of the pie with Trump. It is all about taking everything he can with him. If you haven't learnt anything from how he has treated America's oldest and closest allies, you deserve everything that is going to come your way.

I'm sure 207,000 H1B professionals are eagerly waiting for that call from Modi.
add another 100k on L1 to this number, they should leave in protest as well :P
