India will surpass US and China to become leader in automobile Industry over the next ten years: Gadkari

Any Indian members believe this claim. Or do you believe this is a ridiculous claim?

To answer your question in short: I don’t.

Long answer: It’s a good target to have. We should always compare ourself and challenge ourself against giants. China and U.S. are giants.

However, in democracy politicians talk big. In Indian democracy politicians talk very big. 😊

Do people forget that cars aren't the only vehicles? India is the world's largest producer of 2 wheelers, 3 wheelers and even tractors (if it is to be considered one). Yes 2/3 wheelers are cheaper but he didn't specify "cars" specifically.

with our own brands even. Bajaj / Mhindra sell as Bajajs and Mahindras even in american markets.

Nothing impossible...... situations change quite quickly..... China by population is on the way towards retirement and India is churning out youths..... in next 1 or half Decade this is not impossible and we are already a master when it comes to 2 wheelers or 3......

China accounted for nearly one-third of the world's vehicle production in 2023

In 2023, global vehicle production surged, led by China with over 30 million vehicles — a 12% increase from 2022.

The US and Japan followed, holding 11% and 10% shares, respectively.

Global output rose 10%, reaching 93.55 million vehicles, up from 85.02 million in 2022.
It’s likely that of India’s 5.8 million vehicle production, most of them are 2 and 3 wheelers. By counting the 2 and 3 wheelers, India would produce more vehicles than South Korea and Germany. As an Indian mention, Indians lead the world in 2 and 3 wheelers. I’m not sure how true is that.

Finally, it’s not sure if they count Mahindra tractors as vehicle production.

If you don’t believe this to be an exaggeration, then you must have some insider information. Do you think India plans to count rickshaws and cattle carts as vehicle production to boost its number?

All youth will also get old one day.

Those are 4 wheelers genius, India's 2 wheeler production is around 25 million a year. Tractors and 2/3 wheelers are counted separately.

Let me explain it superficially.

Yesterday afternoon I received an order from Kazakhstan for the purchase of some drill bit.

In other countries, it would be difficult to do do dozens of processes such as wire cutting, isostatic pressing, etc. in the same country. You may have to place orders to factories in many countries, and the products have to be mailed many times over. The postage alone is enough to make your cost overrun.

But in my city, I can do it just by driving my car to each factory.

If you're not in my city, no matter how low your labour costs are, your quote will always be much higher than mine.

China's manufacturing advantage has never been labour costs. China's advantage lies in the fact that China is the only country with a full industrial manufacturing chain, but rather in the fact that China's industrial layout is categorised in terms of cities, and that the distribution of industrial chains is designed in a very scientific manner, with very low logistics costs. With the management ability of the Indian government, they can't replicate it with a thousand years.

Apparently your ancestors were taught by them...

No one wants to buy CHinese products because they're junk.

Indian brands don't claim to be 'the bestest' or 'cheapest' but do what they're supposed to do well.

Ask any Royal Enfielder.

India will have to first surpass China in manufacturing.

China is the number 1 in the world for manufacturing

India can't surpass China in Manufacturing until there is real fall of OECD economies, which may help us see what we make for ourselves only, without waiting for export order......
in Automobile Industries, i would say that India may get position 2 after China. US is 'saturated' market and India can replace it from 2nd position in next 5 to 10 years :coffee:

In the next five years, India's automobile industry will rise to become number one in the world, Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari said on January 18 during an event in New Delhi.

Gadkari highlighted that the automobile industry has created 4.5 crore jobs so far, highest by any sector in the country.

Addressing a Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) event, the road transport and highways minister further said demand of Indian automobile products is very high globally.

"The size of Indian automobile industry is now Rs 22 lakh crore. I am confident that within five years, the Indian automobile industry will be number one in the world," he said.

Presently, size of the US automobile industry is Rs 78 lakh crore, followed by China (Rs 47 lakh crore) and India (Rs 22 lakh crore).

Gadkari further said when he took charge of the transport ministry in 2014, the size of the automobile industry was Rs 7.5 lakh crore and today its size is Rs 22 lakh crore.

According to the minister, the automobile industry has created 4.5 crore jobs till now — the highest in the country.

"This is the automobile industry, which is giving maximum revenue as a part of GST to the state government and Bharat Sarkar," he added.
