We need Scientists like Kalam or Vikram Sarabhai to spear head such projects. Leaders with vision and charisma. Changing the entire model and the ecosystem seems almost impossible. The reason is our society and deeply entrenched work culture issues.

In indian case, I maybe wrong but in my personal view, issue is not at the level of people/Scientists. Issue is Lack of funds, leniency on timelines and above all Babuism.

You guys still don't get it. As you put it, why has it taken "two slaps" given to you by what you repeatedly call a "poor failed state" with a fraction of your spending power? What makes you think throwing money at the problem is the solution? After all, the country that gave you the slaps has no money, yet it was able to bitch slap a larger, maleficent, enemy with all the money and access to all the best weapons in the world. You were saying the same things when you inducted the "Raptor of the east", and then the Rafales. In fact, over 20 years ago I used to hear you indians repeatedly bark on the AFM forum how your Mig-21 equipped with israeli ECM jamming pods would be enough to defeat the PAF.

This is why I said your weakest link cannot be much weaker than your rivals and it cannot be more prevalent, before you can be cutting edge dont you think you need to be anti-fragile first?

It is not about rivals but issues within. Systemic issues that stifle innovation.

There is no gain in trying to compare with an adversary/ opponent. Studying the practices across the world to learn from best practices is a great idea though for the purpose of motivation and learn best practices.

Babuism is a cultural issue, bred and brought up by the society.
It exists within the scientific community also as well as the academia. The levels are different and few institutions have been able to do better under motivated leaders.

Defence sector can’t be immune and seen in isolation.

There is no ceiling at all. If there was a ceiling there wouldn’t have been a Kaveri at all or massive success seen in space sector.
Instead of ceiling, I would call it a ladder. Some are climbing it faster and some a little slower. China is doing it fast while we are doing it a little slower. Thats all.

I know that you are trying to allude that it is end of the world for India. And I am saying - you are dead wrong.
