mq 9b predator drone crashes after technical failure at sea off chennai – The News Mill

The Indian Navy said that a MQ-9B Predator High Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft (HALE RPA) encountered a technical failure on Wednesday, after which the aircraft was navigated to a safe area over the sea and carried out a controlled ditching at sea off Chennai.
“A High Altitude Long Endurance Remotely Piloted Aircraft (HALE RPA) leased by the Indian Navy operating from INS Rajali, Arakonnam (near Chennai) encountered a technical failure at about 1400 hrs whilst on a routine surveillance mission which could not be reset in flight,” the Ministry of Defence said
Later, the aircraft was navigated to a safe area over the sea and carried out a controlled ditching at sea off Chennai, it stated.
“A detailed report has been sought from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM),” it added.
“The MQ-9B Predator drones (HALE RPA) flying for the Indian Navy are operated by General Atomics under a lease agreement between the Indian Navy and the American firm. The Indian side pays only for the services provided by the vendor and the drones are flown by the pilots from the vendor side. The Indian side has asked for a detailed report from the vendors on the accident,” Navy officials said.

Where is DDG-80, pingke, tejas spokesman etc ? They were jumping up and down couple weeks back when a Shahpar drone crashed in Pakistan. I wish I could see these idiots faces.

Okay, it was operated by USA...

They supposed to provide the details of incident about technical glitch

So, are you saying USA is operating drones inside Indian airspace and around conducting surveillance?

Not Indian airspace. It flies over international waters.

Though there is an American crew for maintenance, technical and training purposes, the Indian Navy is totally in control of the operations and the huge amount of data being generated in the ISR missions, as per the lease agreement.

The Indian Navy has inducted two MQ-9B Sea Guardian unarmed drones procured from the U.S. on lease, two defence sources said on Wednesday.

“The drones are on lease for one year. All planning, execution and operations will be with the Indian Navy. The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) will play a support role for maintenance as laid down in the agreement,” one defence source said. The drones arrived in India mid-November.

Under the lease, the two RPAs have been operated by the OEM to provide assured surveillance of the vast region to the navy, officials aware of the matter said. The OEM will now have to replace the lost RPA with another one to meet the navy’s needs as per the agreement, they added.

We do not operate explicitly .
We did not incure monetory loss.

Did Russia ever provided details to the cause of engine fire on Pak FA.
@Topic, US operating spy drones in India,
Aren't Indians training on them as India is supposedly acquiring them in numbers.
