Indian Politics and Internal News

Some sources have said that Modi in today's RSS meeting was asked to resign when he turns 75. The back drop of that story is that due to the failure of his policy and strategy towards Pakistan, a global embarrassment has started and many nations have became distant from India, including the US. Additionally, the armed forces of India show moral down as they were made the scapegoat at the end.

Hi,

Mr. Modi is just a face---he will be replaced by an equally or more radical personality.

The path that the BJP has chosen---it will not change with PM Modi gone---.

A new face will take over---newer tactics---newer strategies---newer game plans will be enforced---.

From predictable---we will go to unpredictable for awhile---.

From our side---things will stay the same---.

so who replaces him? Yogi?

Yes, his name is on top of the list. To us, its like going to a circus and watch some animals play a game. There is repetition in their presence and activities but the game is the same. The anti human / anti Muslim agenda will remain the same.

BJP or Congress Indian policy regarding Pakistan is more or less the same. I don't think it would be any different if a congress government was in power. This Modi -Yogi talk is irrelevant in that regard and no I don't think Modi is going to retire.

guess is that while there may be isolated incidents or individual misconduct, some of these broader allegations might stem from exaggeration, political motives, or personal grievance.
Isolated ? This appears to be linked to a temple and there are dozens of reports in the Kannada language media. Unfortunately I can't read or understand Kannada. I have been searching for Tamil versions of these reports trying to figure out what the non-English media is saying. My Singapore street Tamil is very basic 😊
Maybe you can understand what this report is saying.
The Hindi channels are sensationalist, so I am going by the Kannadiga channels ( I have asked a friend hailing from Chikmaglur for translation)

The forensic examination of one set of bones is already underway. The claim is from upto 100 sets of bones or more.
Looks like it is serious enough for the Supreme Court ( the last resort!) to get involved.
An updated English language report is below:

It's ironic that we recently had a conversation about the level of female abuse, and rape in our respective countries ,

Self styled religious policing ? This NDTV reporter is brave.
It will not be long before the first lynching of a secular reporter happens in the "cow belt ".
The bigger question is how long will the cultured educated South remain unaffected by this religious fervor.
I think a trickle is there already if the Gauri Lankesh murder is to be assumed as a trend not an isolated incident. Not surprisingly the murderer was honored by "patriots"
@vasanthm
I like your statement "we are a democracy of 1.4 billion people so such things unfortunately happen " . When we in Pakistan argue for democracy of the "India model type" we fail to convince our countrymen.

It appears India is descending into unparalleled savagery.
Mass rape. mass torture, mass murder, The dialectical dilemm

I mourn for ever girl abducted b the traffickers. Even in USA and Canada thousands of young girls are abducted by gangs and no trace of them is found. It is very organized and secretive gangs with international connections. The gangs are forced to turn their top good looking girls to their handler who passed them up the chain. The rich and famous are deep in the pedophilia pandemic and later snuffing the victims. President Clinton flew in Lolita Express flight to Espstein pedophilia island.

NDTV is brave !

I haven’t been following this closely, but I’ll take a look. That said, I’m not sure why people still expect religious figures or institutions to be inherently above reproach. If anything, they often get more leeway in society precisely because of their supposed ‘moral’ standing which makes abuse more likely to go unchecked. Just look at the recent scandals involving Thai monks, or the decades long child abuse cover ups by churches in the West.

From personal experience too, people are people, religious or not and no religion has a monopoly on virtue. All faiths have had their share of serious abuses. A mature society recognises this and builds strong institutions to hold everyone accountable, regardless of the robes they wear. In that regard, the West has made some progress, mostly after generations of damage and public reckoning.

Hope the quest to build a mature society by both our nations is ultimately successful. Even in enmity we have a common objective.
Two cases are stark
In 2013 Pakistanii architect and social activist Perween Rahman was gunned down because she worked on solutions to low cost housing, restructuring of slums like Orangi with clean water, sanitation , supporting NGO's in designing health and education facilities. She was killed merely because she was a secular woman who served all regardless of religion, race or creed with minimum to no compensation . Her murder was the vilest act by religious fundamentalist fascists that infect a section of our society like cancer.
We tracked and shot dead the assassin who killed her, and apprehended four others who were involved in the plot. These four are serving multiple life sentences and will never see the world outside their jail cells,

Gauri Lankesh was gunned down 4 years later in 2017, for exactly the same reason as Perween. She had incurred the wrath of religious fundamentalists for opposing their hate filled agenda and paid the price . Though her murder was denounced and condemned by all secular sections of Indian society her killers today are free out jail and honored by your ruling establishment. What was shocking was the social media support her killers got.

both Gauri Lankesh and Rahman were brave women who stood up for what they believed in and their murders were tragic. But I wouldn’t put them in exactly the same category. Gauri was very political and openly went after powerful figures. That made her a lightning rod, and in this part of the world, that can come at a cost.

That said, I think we need to look beyond individual stories. They're important but they don’t give us the whole picture. In a place like South Asia, where there’s no shortage of serious issues, what really matters is the larger direction, the structure, the institutions, the system.

And if you zoom out, India’s system is far from perfect, but it’s still much stronger than Pakistan’s across most metrics,
India ranks 79th in the Rule of Law Index, Pakistan’s way down at 129. On “order and security,” Pakistan is 140 out of 142 just above Mali and Nigeria.

When it comes to contract enforcement, Pakistan’s ranked 156th globally, it takes over 1,000 days to resolve disputes on average. India’s doing better on that front, was ranked 63rd.

Even in terms of conviction rates, agencies like the CBI and NIA in India have rates upwards of 90%.

the Indian legal system can still be a pain, slow, overloaded, sometimes politicized but it generally works better. The institutions are more robust, and there's a bit more accountability built in. Both countries have problems but when you step back and look at the macro trends, India is on firmer ground institutionally.
