The Vela Alpha eVTOL (Electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) aircraft is being developed through a collaboration between Indonesian Aerospace (PTDI) and PT Vela Prima Nusantara (Vela Aero). The aircraft is set to be showcased at Heli Expo Asia 2026.

Designed as an advanced air mobility platform, Vela Alpha combines vertical take-off and landing capability with fixed-wing flight. The aircraft is being developed in both fully electric and hybrid-electric configurations, targeting applications including passenger transport, airport shuttles, medical evacuation, cargo transport, and other short- to medium-range air mobility services. PTDI has previously described Vela Alpha as part of its push into Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technologies.

The electric version is designed for a range of around 100–160 km, while the hybrid configuration is intended to provide substantially longer range. The aircraft uses a distributed propulsion architecture and is designed to carry a pilot and multiple passengers.

Vela Alpha is also part of Indonesia’s effort to develop a domestic eVTOL ecosystem. Earlier development plans targeted flight testing beginning in 2026, certification around 2027, and eventual commercial operation from 2028.
