2024 was ‘deadliest year’ for Pakistan’s security forces

Ikram Junaidi

• 685 security personnel laid down their lives amid 444 terror attacks across the country
• CRSS data shows KP and Balochistan were worst-hit by the violence

ISLAMABAD: With at least 685 members of security forces losing their lives amid a total of 444 terror attacks, 2024 turned out to be the deadliest year for civil and military security forces of Pakistan in a decade.

Equally alarming were the cumulative losses of civilians and security personnel: 1,612 fatalities, accounting for over 63pc of the total recorded this year and marking 73pc more losses compared to 934 outlaws eliminated.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted a total of 59,775 operations this year during which “925 terrorists” were killed and 383 “brave officers and soldiers embraced martyrdom”. These figures were stated by ISPR Director General (DG) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry during a press conference on December 27.’

Suicide attack at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak. Know the truth.

The suicide attack at Darul Uloom Haqqania is a despicable act of Fitna al-Kharijites and their followers.

Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani was targeted in the suicide attack because Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani had taken a clear and unequivocal stand regarding women's education at a conference held under the Islamic World Alliance last month.

Maulana Hamidul Haq had also declared that preventing women from getting an education was against Islam. For this statement, Maulana Hamidul Haq was also threatened several times by Fitna al-Kharijites.

The explosion during Friday prayers reflects the fact that the Fitna al-Kharijites, their followers, and facilitators have no connection with the religion of Islam.

Following in the footsteps of Hindu extremists, the Fitna al-Kharijites are martyring mosques and ordinary citizens seeking religious education in Pakistan.

The Khawarij, disguised as religion, have targeted mosques and Imambargahs with their terrorism in the past as well.

These same terrorists, who are at the last stage of extremism, targeted 17 mosques, 32 Imambargahs and 21 shrines with terrorism. Not only this, but they also martyred several religious scholars including Maulana Hassan Jan, Maulana Noor Muhammad, Allama Nasir Abbas and Khalid Soomro.

In the merged districts of KP, 21 terrorist attacks were reported, leading to the deaths of 22 security personnel and eight civilians, while 26 personnel and 11 civilians were injured.

On the other hand, security forces killed at least 98 terrorists, injured 15, and arrested 50 suspects in the region.

The rest of KP, meanwhile, witnessed 23 terrorist attacks, resulting in the deaths of 14 security personnel and 12 civilians, while 22 civilians and an equal number of security personnel were injured. Security forces killed 47 terrorists in the province, the report said.

Now that Trump mentioned and thanked Pakistan in his speech last night, for getting the Daesh mastermind of the attack on the Abbey gate, Pakistan should make a montage of these videos, especially featuring the cobra helicopters but all American made weapons (including the F-16), and send it to Trump with our ambassador, so Pakistan can get those AH-1Z helicopters. Pakistan has been recognized for its counterterrorism contribution and Pakistan needs to strike while the iron is hot; get the means to build up our COIN capabilities (3-4 thousands of MRAPS from excess defense articles for only a couple hundred million dollars, get a big deal for UH-1Y or Bell 412M helicopters, and get the kind of comms equipment to hunt down the masterminds of all the militant groups in Pakistan).

Btw, in the following video, it says the guy was in jail until two weeks before the attack. Had the PA gone in and taken the prisoners from Bagram, at least the Daesh and TTP ones, perhaps the attack and many others could have been prevented.

Rise in terrorism

Pakistan ranked second in the Global Terrorism Index 2025, with the number of deaths in terrorist attacks rising by 45 per cent over the past year to 1,081.

February saw a marginal increase in terrorist attacks but a sharp surge in civilian casualties, according to a report published by an Islamabad-based think tank, the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (Piccs).

According to Piccs, the country witnessed 79 terrorist attacks last month, resulting in the deaths of 55 civilians and 47 security personnel, while 45 civilians and 81 security personnel were injured. Security forces, meanwhile, intensified counter-terrorism operations, eliminating 156 terrorists, injuring 20, and arresting 66, the report said.

It further said that Balochistan remained the most volatile province, recording 32 attacks that claimed 56 lives — including 35 civilians, 10 security personnel, and 11 militants.

Military vows to crush Balochistan terrorists, abettors

Baqir Sajjad Syed
March 15, 2025

• ISPR director general, Balochistan chief minister point to India as ‘main sponsor of terror’
• 23 security personnel among 31 casualties; officials fear toll from Jaffar Express tragedy may rise
• Bugti says no grievances justify such a heinous act; sees TTP and BLA as two sides of same coin

The ISPR chief detailed the ongoing counterterrorism operations, revealing that in 2024 alone, security forces conducted 59,775 intelligence-based operations both major and minor.

So far in 2025, 11,654 IBOs have been carried out. He noted that 1,250 terrorists were killed during 2024 and 2025, while 563 security personnel were martyred.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti characterised the hijacking as a clear act of terrorism, dismissing any notions that it stemmed from economic grievances or political issues. “This was purely an act of terrorism carried out by evil forces that not only want to destabilise Pakistan, but also want to break it,” he stated.

CM Bugti accused India’s intelligence agency, RAW, of orchestrating anti-Pakistan activities through Afghanistan.

He claimed that while the banned TTP and BLA follow different ideologies, their handlers — a reference to India that funds and trains them to carry out attacks against Pakistan — keep them together.
