Simple. IRGC is part of it or more like initiator of it. Revenues got siphoned off. 112 Billion USD in export revenue got diverted to IRGC led front companies and offshore accounts instead of sending that hard currency back to the Central Bank, They keep it outside the country to fund their "war chest" and run a parallel economy where revenues never reach central bank yet imports are paid from the very same bank to cause an artificial deficit. Mullahs never got the hint of what IRGC did right under their noses. IRGC, Larijani + Mokhber factions, current government all seem to have led this coordinated coup which they knew ISrael and US will try to capitalise so it will provide them the oppurtunity to grab the power under pretext of war against superpower. Is there otherwise anyother explanation to this that a country earning ~120 Billion USD just from oil export is suddenly facing inflation ? Remember IRGC led companies run 1000+ tanker fleet that Mullahs cant control. This is Russian style war economy model where the forces themselves can fund an elongated war without concerning with government. This is why I say that Iran is heading towards military run technocracy run on petro economy. IRGC started this probably somewhere under Soleimani times but they are using it now. Ideally for them, war will start so they can finish the coup.

Why are they doing it ? different people have different theories. Iranian political commentators thinks IRGC is hardcore nationalist group dedicated to gaurd the nation, they are part of Iranian deep state of power factions, bureaucrats, intelligence community, scientists, thinkers, business tycoons .... all of them want Mullahs gone because they might see Islamism as un-necessary or themselves as better qualified for running the nation. Ali Shabani of Amwaj thinks that IRGC's grievance started with Khamenei's resistance towards nukes and probably the fact that Soleimani crafted resistance empire from Yemen to Lebanon is lost all because Khamenei could not nuke up the nation despite all the tools available to him at the right time.

2000-3000 MRBMs maybe, but not total missiles including SSMs

I think the numbers are significantly higher personally but I can't prove it. except that the biggest SSM bases were significantly impeded during the war and never saw action meaning their huge missile stockpiles were not accessed and remain available

But how many SRBMs in case of war with U.S? We know that the Iranian SRBMs are significantly more accurate than their MRBMs. We also know that nearly all of them use solid-fuel propellant and that their accompanying TELs are small and more agile.

Surely the SRBMs must be in greater quantity than the MRBMs?

Atleast 5-8 years back, most numerous missiles were Fateh series and Emad, Ghadr. Since then My own assumption is that Etemad/Emad MaRV, Fattah+Kheybar Shikan skip glide hypersonics, and K-4 (IRBM-PBV), Sejjil (dual staged solid fueled M/IR BM) are the major missiles now. Rest arsenal may have been moved to storage.

Most advanced in the entire arsenal is Fattah and Qasem Basir which is more of an AShBM or pin point strike. Most destructive is K-4 which can deploy 80 bomblets at 3200 KM from its PBV according to IISS.

Is it me or is weird people keep mentioning the whole 2000 3000 missiles Iran has I honestly think the number is higher especially in those underground cities but my question is what are the numbers of fateh or zolifqar missiles and god knows whatever variants came before or after if the number of supposed longer range is around 3000 wouldn’t the shorter range types range closer to 10 thousand if not more those are the missiles that would be used to destroy bases close to Iran or destroy naval targets.

If Iran only has 3000 Medium range missiles, theyre too less, if 60% get shot down then Iran will only hit 1200 at targets, the damage will also not be too much. Iran does possess big numbers of short range missiles which can easily target the Gulf bases, I say atleast 5000.
