there is no free market in weapons, it's a monopoly under state control where a lot of taxmoney can be easily stolen by rulers and officials. It’s well known that the Israeli Harop and Iranian Shahed were based off this German prototype that never went into service. A Cold War era R&D solution. Iranian’s were merely the only ones that decided it was worth making it to mass production and a focal point of their defense strategy, maybe due to military budget constraints.
Again this goes back to the military industrial complex arguement. When the military arms manufacturers have too much power in your procurement cycle, then it’s not innovative ideas that win out, but many times the one that has the most political strings attached to it.
Your experience still holds true today. I talked to a defense engineer once for one of the big companies and he said many times he would be overruled by guys brought in who were either former retired military or just MBA suits and who would have no engineering background and would have absurd demands to the point it was just annoying working there.
I do think what dooms many militaries and successful campaigns is not the lack of innovation, but the flawed qualities of a human (hubris, arrogance, and ego) that get in the way of that innovation from seeing the light of day.
I will give you an example, Hitler thought that nuclear fission was a fools errand and quack science. So he pulled many of the brightest German scientists working on that project to work on his other Wonder Weapon projects. Ironically, if Hitler did nothing or actually doubled down on nuclear fission research then Germany might have had a nuclear weapon before anyone else and won the war. Instead they blew enormous amounts of resources on various high tech projects that either couldn’t change the battlefield or were too late and costly.
USN ships are idiot proof they don't sink the question that should be asked no US ships HIT so far since the war started and the answer is NO.So been over half an year no USN ship sunk so far??

but Iran can't afford waste money, they needed effective defense spending: cheap drones, own missiles.
the another most cost effective weapon is nukes.
This the guy that saw UFO jellyfish?
When the Iranian shuts down the supposed American patriotNo, this is the one that climbed a mountain with a broken leg.

When the Iranian shuts down the supposed American patriotalso to be fair from what everything came out afterwards the copilot who was concussed actually did see what he saw even if it wasn’t as grand as he may have thought Iran was using drones to spot and target American aircraft @SolarWarden
what country has a better military industry spending than iran? north korea? but nk has a crappy non-military economy.Iran’s military industrial complex is not efficient either. Many companies come up with ideas, few get funding.
For example, Iran had the stealth mobin cruise missile concept showed off years ago and yet got no funding.
Also there was a bias on spending funding on certain types of missiles, while letting other types (anti ship cruise) not evolve and become more lethal. I called out the lack of lethality of Iran’s anti ship arsenal during the Yemen war, which is basically 25-30 year old Chinese cruise missiles under production.
So while Iran’s military industrial complex situation is not nearly as bad as U.S. It is still filled with many same type of flaws. Hopefully this war will wake up the powers that be and learn valuable lessons in how they should modernize their force moving forward.
