People may be interested to know the doctrine of "Vilayat-e-Faqih" that Khomeini espoused and is current foundation of Iranian system is a minority school of thought in Shia fiqh. Majority of Shia scholars ascribe to "Quietism" which is similar to the doctrine of separation of faith and state. An example is Ayatollah Sistani in Iraq where he has only intervened in politics twice in last 25 years in Iraq, first for the elections post Saddam and then to build a coalitiion to fight ISIS in mid 2010s.
