We may need to have a separate thread on contemplating Iran’s disastrous performance during the first few days of the war.

What disaster? Iran took on the world's largest military power (US) and a regional heavyweight (ISR) and at the end of the bout is still standing on its two feet. From the point of view of a bystander like me, it seems a victory.

Only good news was Salami is finally dead.

There can always be ceasefire, the question is for how long? weeks? months? years? Bear in mind the current time time we have Trump sitting until 2029 and Bibi for whenever he liked, do you think Iran should take the hit everytime Bibi had some kind of political crisis and send some missile Iran way?
If you are going to fight anyway, why not fight now instead of being degraded down a couple of years of back and forth? That's the issue here.

Iran is caught flat footed on many levels during this conflict. Israel had the advantage of years of planning for this, sobateurs, spies, fake negotiations through America, surprise attack... But Iran has not taken a mortal blow and needs to regroup.
Next time Netanyahu will find a more determined Iran. A ceasefire is needed right now but I think it is also needed by Israel.
Right now: looks like, as always, it is the mighty Israeli ego and arrogance which wants to defy Trump and keep attacking. Won't be good for Israel to cross Trump: His ego has no limits.
