The issue that the IRGC long touted SAM were nothing but junk should be severely investigated.
Even the poor and small Yemen, facing a far more powerful US military, put up a good fight and did not openly allow flights over Sanaa. They even pushed an F-35 to the brink of being shot down.
The IRGC air defense is clearly inferior to Yemen's.
To begin with, it was obvious that the mountain ranges north of Tehran would block radar and create a significant blind spot, and that Azerbaijan is an ally of Israel. The route of the bombing through Azerbaijan this time was easily predictable.
The failure to maintain vigilance toward Azerbaijan and the inability to mount any counterattack this time is also a serious blunder.

Fair points but Yemen did not suffer an insider attack that disabled its air defense. Additionally the Iranian missiles caused major damage in Israel and led to exhaustion of the interceptor stock, which combined with no uprising led to the end of the war.

Round 2 is going to happen after at least 18 months and it will be upto Iran to have restored its Air Defense by then and take away the insider threat.

Without replenishing interceptor stock, they will not dare attack. That will take about 18 months.
