LONDON — Iran has obtained at least two nuclear warheads that had been reported missing from Kazakhstan, The European newspaper said Thursday.

The article, which cites a secret report from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Agency, again raises questions about whether the successors to the Soviet Union will be able to control their most dangerous weapons.

The European did not say how it had obtained the intelligence report. It quoted the report as saying several nuclear warheads vanished from the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site in Kazakhstan, which the republic’s president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, closed early this year.

Why would Iran give up the ambiguity that was the only ancillary benefit from the 12 day war?

As soon as they dig out...guess who will come knocking? Yep..the IAEA...the same IAEA that laid the groundwork for the attack to begin with.
Nope....that lack of work is no indication of anything.....if anything it's a chess move, till we figure out what we can do.

On the surface that's what it may seem like...but you don't know. At least I can quote the foreign minister about why the IAEA can't go to the site, and cite a few clues about upcoming talks...etc.
All you have is an opinion. How many times have you recalibrated your stance on the 12 day war?
Some of us said we did inflict a lot of damage on Israel....some of us said that's why they sued for peace after 12 days, but you naysayers kept saying they meant to only have war for 12 days...
Some of us said the idea was to pull the US into the war and turn Iran into a failed state...when that didn't happen...Israel was shocked and worried and they sued for peace immediately. But again you and others shotdown that theory.....

Perhaps khamenei should limit missiles to 1000 km to both not comply with Trump's demand (thus avoiding all sanctions relief) while also damaging Iran's defensive strength as he has with his previous fatwas.
He can say "we have the capability to build longer range missiles and no one can take that knowledge away but we choose not to" just as he did with enrichment.

Unlike some members of the Iranian diaspora, I don't think that changing the regime would be enough for Israel. They are clearly aiming for one of two outcomes:

a. endless, paralyzing civil war or

b. fragmentation of the country

In my opinion, their ideal situation would be a regime change along with balkanization of the Iranian territory.

What - besides building the bomb - could Iran do to avoid these scenarios (realistically)?

Israel is not able to accomplish this by itself, but has a chance with total US involvement both in air and ground, but even this would be a massive task for them as the recent war told us that Iranians are more united than ever in times of war, and that no riots or uprisings will happen in times of war

That chance is now put to the rest, if you believe the National Sec advisor of the US. The regime change is no longer pursued....I think because a destabilized Iran is a much bigger headache for them than the IRI.
