I think what he's trying to say, very badly, is that they no longer need the US military bases to be defended by the US directly. So, they should get rid of the US military bases and only buy American weapons.

Spanish deep state is fully vassal to USA.

Remember March 11th 2004 Madrid train attacks, and August 17th 2017 Barcelona Ramblas attack, in the middle of Catalonian separatist color revolution.

Spanish deep state, mostly formed by catholic sects inside military and police, has no problems in kill own people in self attacks.

So guess what crap they give about Iran war. It's political public circus, in the end important decisions/orders from USA are not publicly discussed and just obeyed.

Flights towards Iran in Spanish airspace keep happening in the middle and after of all that public rants against Iran war.

PSOE won 2004 elections thanks to "No to Iraq war", and they want to repeat it, but it's just that, public narrative, without real consequences, keeping submission to USA master privately.

Yes. Seems so.
But can't trick the Bank. If you purchase F35 and then you're not going to support any military adventure of US in your neighborhood, they will harm, hack or even boicot logistical support of your fleet.
There is two deadtracks in US military support, one It is not following or not supporting their initiatives or interests (Spain) and two developing indigenous technologies that can challenge their market (Turkey).
