Iran - Israel/US War: Israel-US declare war on Iran, Iran responds

China calls for 'complete' and immediate cessation of hostilities in Middle East

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for an end to hostilities in the Middle East and for the United States and Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz “as soon as possible”, during talks with his Iranian counterpart, AFP reports.

“China considers that a complete cessation of fighting must be achieved without delay, that it is even more unacceptable to restart hostilities, and that continuing to negotiate remains essential,” he said, according to a statement from his ministry after the talks with Abbas Araghchi in Beijing.

What is the current state of peace talks between the US and Iran?

Talks between the US and Iran were held in Islamabad on 11 April
As we've just heard, Axios is reporting that the White House believes it could be closing in on a memorandum of understanding with Iran.

Here's a reminder of how talks between the US and Iran have played out in recent weeks:

  • A two-week ceasefire was due to end on 22 April, and led to high-level negotiations being held in Pakistan - which later collapsed over key issues such as Iran's nuclear programme and passage through the Strait of Hormuz
  • US President Donald Trump extended the ceasefire anyway, and maintains that his representatives are having "very positive discussions with the country of Iran"
  • Tehran put forward a 14-point plan for peace, Iranian media reported, and on Sunday Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said "talks are making progress", while warning the US against "being dragged back into quagmire"
  • A representative of Pakistan, which has acted as a mediator, told the BBC on Tuesday that his country was continuing to exchange messages between the US and Iran - with Trump later saying "great progress" had been made toward a "final agreement"

White House believes it's close to agreeing memorandum with Iran to end war - US report

Axios is reporting that the White House believes it is close to a memorandum of understanding with Iran on ending the war.

The news outlet cites two US officials and two other sources it describes as briefed on the issue, who are all unnamed in the report.

It describes the memorandum as a one-page, 14-point memo which could set a framework for more detailed nuclear negotiations. Among the provisions it lists are a suspension on Iranian nuclear enrichment, the lifting of sanctions, and restoring free transit through the Strait of Hormuz.

Ending nuclear enrichment and reopening the strait have been key sticking points in the negotiations so far.

Axios cites sources as saying that many of the terms laid out in the memo would be contingent on a final agreement being reached.

The US expects a response in the next 48 hours, and nothing has been agreed yet, it reports, citing sources.

The BBC has approached the White House for comment - Iran has not yet commented.

'Project Freedom' was not delivering results - expert

The US and Iran apparently getting closer to agreeing a deal is "one of the reasons" the US suspended its "Project Freedom" operation to guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz, says one expert.

Ali Vaez, Iran project director for the International Crisis Group think tank, says Trump's choice was between continuing an operation that was "clearly not delivering the results" or suspending that operation and seeing if there was a "diplomatic way out".

He tells BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the Iranian response to Project Freedom – including shooting at ships and attacks on the UAE – likely persuaded Trump that this operation was "not going to solve the problem" and could "drag him back into a war".

On the seemingly rapid American U-turn, Vaez says in his view "there is no real policy process in this administration".

"The president makes decisions based on impulse more than process, therefore there are inconsistencies that happen all the time," he says.

Good news that there are signs of an end of the conflict. At least for now until they will generate some other war excuse.

But still this can be a ploy as well. For example isreal can make another attack on Iran for Iran to strike back and usa going all in again claiming some of their assets are hit. isreal would take responsibility of the attack and usa assets claimed to be hit would finish the ceasefire. Later on bibi would be accused as a scape goat for finishing the ceasefire efforts but it doesnt matter if the plan is to restart the conflict by the bibi-trump duo. Afterwards isreali socialist parties and democrats can come and clean the mess all under control of the zionist power holders.

So these days are still dangerous as the peace efforts can be sabotaged by isreal. High value officials of Iran should still be protected with highest measures. Attacks coming from isreal would be countered back attacking only isreali targets unless clear usa involvement is detected.

With all of his tweets claiming Pakistan stopped him from launching these strikes soon indians and Isrealis are gonna invent an imaginary Pakistani lobbying group that runs America and claim Asim munir is in the Epstein files. Conveniently hiding their own pacs and influence

Pakistan is acting as the safety value for Trumps Idiocy and everyone in the world, and Iran are all grateful for that...

I would like to believe the war is over but there are too many war mongering powerful forces that are not giving up! Let’s see with bated breath

I'm of the same thought as you. Would like to believe the war is over, but there are forces on both sides that don't want it to end

It will be a history day if a deal is signed in Islamabad which include no more fighting in Lebanon and resume the rebuilding of Gaza, world has been in one turmoil after another, its time to let the world heal and people some relief.

Iran's bottom line is lifting sanctions, not nuclear weapons.

Trump's bottom line is that the conditions must be better than the Obama agreement.

If China mediates negotiations between Iran and the United States, China must commit to safeguarding Iran's security. But China is not willing to enter the quagmire of the Middle East.

And Pakistan acting as an intermediary will benefit the political reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

China only needs to provide certain compensation to the United States during Trump's visit to China.
Why compensate the United States?

This is a reward for the Epstein coalition's aggressive war.

I think it should be a matter of exchange of interests.

If Iran and the US can reconcile after the war (who harmed/killed each other), the region should too with the UAE. Don't let it slip into the zionist hands.

Anyway, if Iran doesn't need that, Pakistan does.

Thank God there is someone to bail out Trump from his constant blunders. After the Islamabad talks deadlocked, the right approach would have been to cool off for a few days and then to resume the following week. Instead this clown went for a blockade, ruining the ceasefire, the whole atmosphere of de-confliction and then escalating to forcing the Strait of Hormuz open.
"Blunder" it was and analysts have said it was Netanyahu who whispered the Blockade into Trump's ears.
My working thesis; IRGC is more like the Taliban than it is any other group/force and so there is no amount of economic or social harm unto Iran that will cause them to reopen the Strait, even if it turns Iran into New Afghanistan😊
I don't know much about Iran's internal power setup but interesting theory!

Only because Iran had the courage to attack the UAE to send a message to the Arabs + Israel + US that its not going back to accepting strategic patience just because the war is paused and it’s not afraid of restarting it first.
I think there is a major oil (land based) distribution center in the UAE which would be Iran's target and so Iran issued the warning shots; no Plan B for oil distribution to exist!

Joe Kent should run for the office! The guy, by resigning from that top post, opened the door for doubts and dissent like no other from the Trump administration. Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly also added a lot to the anti war voices being from the Right side of the political spectrum.
