While I think Iranian regional ambitions are like other nations: To expand influence, but the primary motive for the Iranians has been to help the Palestinians. For better or worse--and so far the score card is bad for Iran--the support for the Palestinians has cost Iran generational wealth and prosperity. Iran is a deeply ideological state since 1979 and has paid possibly the steepest price for its (mostly) selfless support for the Palestinians. And Iran is getting a lot of sympathies globally for its support for the Palestinians. If the 'Palestine' was removed from the equation and there was a viable Palestinian state, then, I bet, much of Iran's policies would come into question. Until then... all anti war, anti colonialist, all decent human beings, all Muslims are supporting Iran.

Not true. I myself have met many Shia/Sunni Arabs/none-Arabs in Iran, and they don't hate Iran at all
