Any regional country--even Pakistan--can stop the freighters passing through the Strait/north Arabian Sea with a little threat. The cargo ships are handled by civilians; the crew, the insurance companies and the businesses would not dare risk even RPGs fired on them. However, those countries, who want to keep the traffic open, would have to bring in considerable naval power to counter the threats to the cargo ships or to stop the offending country from doing so with military and/or financial means.
Geography matters.

The circumstances have changed now. USA doesn't want a repeat of the stalemate from before. Trump personally wants a rapid victory.

As @Watandar said, it may just be Spec Ops raids. It may be occupying a single island and then getting Arabs to station themselves and be meat shields. One of these outcomes is very plausible now. Was not the case back then.

But whatever form it takes, it is likely to be Iran's one and ONLY opportunity to inflict enough casualties on USA to force them to rethink their approach.

Some good news about the Israeli attempt to co-opt the US military and intelligence. Notice who voted for America: Democrats! So let's not fall into the false equivalance that the 'Zion controls America' and that both parties are the same. No, they are not. Even during the recent Gaza war, 19 US Democratic Senators had voted to block the weapons supply to Israel. And during this war, 38 Democratic Senators voted to block weapons sale to Israel.
Of those Senators, while Bernie Sanders get much attention, I believe Senator Chris Van Hollen too should be recognized by the world: Not only on the Gaza and this war on Iran, he even stood up to India over Kashmir a few years ago.
Humanity indeed lives! Even in the US Congress.
