Off topic but Pakistan is China's western fort, a cheap investment against India, a live lab for Chinese weaponry, a sales person for China's arms industry, and indeed a route to the richer regions of the world like Europe and the Middle East.

If you cannot impose a cost, then you will "always" be fighting another day. That is the problem that has gotten Iran into the mess it is in now, it has never demonstrated the ability to actually fight and impose a deterrence cost. If Iran is truly asking for talks now, it is asking to be "mowed" again in a few months, and again, and again.

There are two ways. Both are difficult choices.

1) Continue fighting and risk the whole population and economy.

2) Cease fighting and get a deal with guarantee while waiting for Trump to leave.


Both are not easy choices to make. Iran has to decide what is best. It's painful to lose your supreme leader and understandable if Iran does not wants to stop, but it also risks further fragmentation of the Iranian population.

If it were up to me, continue fighting again for a week till next Saturday, allow the market to crash and get a better negotiable deal. But that's only IF IF I have enough ballistic missiles to keep proding Israel. Their interceptors are running out and this is a good opportunity for them to enter the "find out" phase.
