Israel didn't need any 'excuse' to take southern Lebanon up to the Litani River. That land is too fertile, too strategic to ignore but so far Hezbollah became the first, the last and only line of defense to prevent Israel from taking that land.
Hezbollah must join for the sake of Lebanon itself otherwise Lebanon is going to lose its prized southern chunk.

Even if the Lebanese have only slingshots they should throw the shots to Israel otherwise they will lose southern Lebanon. I have zero doubt about Israeli long cherished plans to take southern Lebanon: It is too strategic and too fertile to leave it alone and by taking that the Israelis would be closer to targeting the advanced Turkish presence in Syria.
Lebanon is next. Then Turkey. On Israel's menu. Then maybe Pakistan, if things work per Israeli plans.

Imo, Sinwar did the right thing. Israel had to be stopped. Sinwar and Hamas know that Muslims wouldn't have begun marching to Palestine but they wanted to facilitate chain of events that will ultimately lead to Muslim world to evolve, even if they wouldn't be alive to see it.

I've always made it clear Hamas is serious and is ideologically motivated too. I don't know if AoR misread Hamas or Hamas misread AoR.
