A total of one thousand Sunni scholars in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan pledged allegiance to Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei following his selection as the third leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the scholars expressed support for the Assembly of Experts' election of Sayyed Khamenei as leader, declaring their pledge of allegiance and backing for his leadership.

“We, the Sunni scholars in Sistan and Baluchestan province, appreciate the choice of the Assembly of Experts in selecting Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei as the third leader of the Revolution and the Islamic Republic," the statement read.

"And we announce our allegiance to him,” they stated.


The scholars added that the decision to select Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei had once again “foiled the conspiracies of enemies and their schemes against Iran.”

They also called on the Islamic nation, particularly the revolutionary Iranian people and responsible officials, to support the system of Wilayat al-Faqih through unity and awareness.

Nationwide rallies support new leadership​

The announcement follows demonstrations held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and several other provinces, where Iranians expressed support for the Assembly of Experts’ election of Sayyed Mojaba Khamenei as the country’s third leader, succeedinghis father, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, who was martyred while performing his duties in his office during a US–Israeli attack in the early hours of February 28.

Iranian officials stress that the transition of leadership is a continuation of the country’s revolutionary path and a demonstration of national unity in the face of foreign aggression.
