But the thing is the Wedgetail is designed for one threat actor - we all know who that is. The US has other capabilities it cab bring into theatre presently.

usaf became lathergic due to the fact that it has been ruling the roost since the demise of the USSR. But now with the rise of China and the reactivation of the russian defence sector. Things have become very complicated and dangerous for the americans.

As of April 2025 they only had 16 operational E-3s.

Now that is down to 15.

These are VERY old planes with their original engines. So maintenence will be a night mare. Assume a third of the fleet being fixed at some point.

Now only gives you 10 planes to play with. 4 are assigned to Pacific Air Forces and 3-4 covering Ukraine/Russia

That leaves you just 2-3 for Mid East theatre now, barely enough for just one bird in the air 24/7. This is even assuming you have nothing covering the US homeland

To put it in perspective, PAF has 10 Erieyes just for Pakistan, France has 4 AWACS just for France

I don't think they will go for the Wedgetail either, program will probably be cancelled. I have a prediction to make, I could be wrong but I think F-35 and the Ford class carrier are the last major weapons platforms the Americans were able to make, they won't be able to make any other major weapons platform in the future. It's all downhill from here.
